Barcelona bid farewell to the Champions League after failing to win the leg against PSG tonight. The team had a huge boost in their motivation, especially with the latest comeback against Sevilla in the Copa and the return of Joan Laporta as president.
However, when a team misses as many chances as the Catalan club did tonight, these excuses are not enough to make another remontada against the Parisien side. Antoine Griezmann spoke in the post-match press conference (via BarçaTV+):
“We played a good game but wasted many chances. Especially in the first half,” said the French striker.
Griezmann was asked whether it was due to the missed penalty of Lionel Messi who scored an absolute rocket goal out of nothing in the 37th minute. But the 29-year-old believes that it was purely because of the ‘wasted chances’:
“Wasting the penalty is not the reason why we are out. We had chances, but we couldn’t score. We played really well and had a couple of clear chances as well as the penalty. We now have the Copa del Rey final and La Liga to focus on.“
“The game we played gives us confidence for what’s to come, but we’re disappointed. We didn’t want to leave so soon.”
Even though the overall collective performance from Barça was dominant compared to PSG, eyes were on Ousmane Dembélé, who missed 3 clear chances against the French side tonight.
