Arsenal and Liverpool enter the bidding to sign Swedish striker linked to Barcelona
With Barcelona’s pursuit of Erling Haaland seemingly coming to a screeching halt, they are focusing on alternatives in the market for the Borussia Dortmund hitman.
One name that has been constantly linked with the Catalan heavyweights as a potential Plan B for the Norwegian is Real Sociedad’s Alexander Isak.
The 22-year-old is not having the best of seasons with La Real this time out, having managed just netted four goals in 23 La Liga matches so far. Despite his dodgy form, the Swedish international’s stock remains high as ever.
While Barcelona continue to monitor him, the former Borussia Dortmund ace is also attracting strong interest from the Premier League, reports Diario AS.
Indeed, Arsenal and Liverpool are believed to have taken a keen interest in Isak and are plotting a move to sign him up in the summer transfer window.
The Gunners were linked with the Real Sociedad star during the January window but a move did not materialise as they baulked at his valuation. But with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang having already left and Alexandre Lacazette likely to follow suit, they need a new centre-forward.
As for Liverpool, they are sweating over the future of Mohamed Salah, due to his contract situation. In addition to that, Roberto Firmino will also see his deal run out in 2023 while Divock Origi is expected to leave later this year, creating the need for a striker at Anfield.
Isak has, thus, emerged as a target for Jurgen Klopp & co., while their rivals, Manchester United are also taking a keen interest in the striker, who has a release clause worth €90 million.
However, Real Sociedad might agree to a lower fee than that sum in case the 22-year-old himself decides to push for an exit. Whether any of Barcelona, Arsenal or Liverpool act on their interest in him remains to be seen.
