According to reports from Mundo Deportivo, there has been an update on the situation of Ousmane Dembele at Barcelona. The Frenchman’s contract with Barcelona is set to expire in the coming summer, and his renewal is of utmost priority.
The club members feel that the winger’s agent is offering him to other clubs that are interested too. Nevertheless, there is a feeling of calm over the player’s renewal at the club offices.
The main reason for the sense is an assurance at Barcelona is that Dembele told club president Joan Laporta and vice president Rafa Yuste that he intends to continue and succeed at the Catalan capital.
The French winger wants to be an integral part of the setup and, for that reason, will continue.
Moreover, Dembele has conveyed to the board that he will sign a contract with a low base salary to help with the economic burden. He will take performance-based bonuses, which will work out better for the club.
Barcelona seemed set to sell the Frenchman in the past window. However, the deal did not go through owing to an injury he picked up during his stint at the Euros with the French National team.
Now, Dembele has been linked to the Premier League, with Liverpool seemingly planning an operation to sign him on a free transfer. Manchester United, too, are in the race, as they were in the summer of 2020.
His renewal — alongside that of Ronald Araujo, Pedri, Ansu Fati, and Gavi — is of utmost importance for the club, for they are at the risk of losing him on a free.
Yet, there is a hope that this will be the year for the winger. With Lionel Messi’s departure, Dembele now has his favoured right-wing at his disposal. The conditions are optimum for him to succeed.
