Barcelona midfielder ‘not on the market’, but club would study high offers
With the summer transfer window not far away, Barcelona find themselves in the midst of some very interesting rumours.
On Monday, reports emerged claiming that the Blaugrana had agreed a deal with Valencia for the signing of Carlos Soler, only for Los Che to deny those claims.
But that has not quietened down the speculations as it has been claimed that the Catalans are indeed negotiating with Soler over a potential transfer in the summer.
Now, SPORT has come up with a fresh update on the matter, claiming to provide clarity on the entire situation involving Barcelona, Soler and another key player in the equation, Frenkie de Jong.
The 24-year-old’s future at Camp Nou has become an intense subject of speculation over the past couple of weeks. There has been strong interest from Manchester United, while the likes of PSG, Bayern Munich and Juventus are also linked.
Manager Xavi Hernandez has constantly insisted that de Jong remains a pivotal part of his plans for Barcelona. And, the report from SPORT adds that the former Ajax midfielder has not been placed on the market for a sale in the summer.
However, it claims that the Blaugrana would listen to and study any significant offer that would come in for the Netherlands international, which does not come as a surprise given their financial situation.
In such a scenario, Soler has been identified as a replacement for de Jong. The club believe that the 25-year-old Valencia ace would be a good fit at Camp Nou while also providing a bigger attacking threat and a strong character to the team.
They also see it as a good deal from an economic point of view as the Catalans would be selling de Jong for a significant sum while potentially signing Soler for a fee around the €30 million mark due to his contract situation.
Valencia are involved in talks over a new deal for the midfielder, but there is little chance that the Spanish international signs an extension. He has other clubs from across Europe vying for his transfer, but Soler prefers to move to Barcelona.
However, everything will depend on how the situation surrounding de Jong unfolds. Should Barcelona receive a big offer for the Dutchman, an exit could certainly be on the cards, paving the way for Soler to move to Camp Nou.
