In a sensational update from Cuatro, Barcelona have acted on their interest in Erling Haaland by offering him a mega-contract worth €190 million over a period of five seasons.
The 21-year-old Haaland is one of the most in-demand players heading into the summer transfer window. The Norwegian is on the shopping list of almost every top club in the continent, with Manchester City, Real Madrid, Manchester United, PSG, Chelsea all credited with an interest.
Barcelona, too, have been hot on the trails of Haaland, making him their priority for the summer. The club president Joan Laporta is intent on making the Borussia Dortmund striker his marquee signing for the summer and has held multiple meetings with his agent, Mino Raiola, to arrange a deal.
Reports earlier today indicated that manager Xavi Hernandez had travelled to Germany to meet the centre-forward personally and convince him to make the switch to Camp Nou at the end of the season.
On the back of that update, Cuatro has come up with a major development on the situation, stating that the Blaugrana have formulated a contract proposal for the 21-year-old.
Barcelona’s contract offer for Haaland
As per the update, Barcelona will offer Haaland a deal worth an enormous €190 million contract spread across five seasons. The report states that Haaland will earn €20 million in his first year with Barça and will see his wages increase to €30 million in the second season before rising up to €40 million for the third.
The fourth and fifth years of his contract would see Haaland pocket €50-55 million, taking the total worth of the deal to a mammoth €190 million.
While this is the contract proposed by Barcelona, Raiola is believed to be looking for a three-year deal plus an option of a further two years. Nevertheless, the super-agent has informed Laporta and Haaland’s father, Alf-Inge, that the 21-year-old ‘must play’ for the Catalans next season.
There is a sense of excitement within the club with these developments. Apart from the wages, Barcelona would also have to pay Haaland’s €75 million release clause and commission to Raiola and the striker’s father, which would take the cost of the deal to around €110 million.
Including the proposed contract, the entire value of the operation to sign Haaland could end up reaching €300 million. It remains to be seen how Barcelona manage to raise the capital necessary for the transfer. One way could be to sign the La Liga – CVC agreement which could see the club pocket €250 million.
