Barcelona president gives update about Dembele’s renewal, confirms interest for his replacement

Addressing the current situation of Barcelona in a candid chat with RAC1, as relayed by SPORT, club president Joan Laporta made several revelations right from Ousmane Dembele’s potential extension to the club’s interest in Leeds United winger Raphinha.

Despite his on-field success, Dembele’s future has been thrown into question as the youngster has still not committed his future to the club.

The probability of this happening is diminishing every passing week and the 2018 World Cup winner is closer to an exit than he is to sign a new deal.

“We made him [Dembele] an offer and he didn’t accept it,” said Laporta.

“We like him, we like him and we see him well. If we reach an agreement, it will be within the salary limits that we have established. I say it with respect, but the representative is a box of surprises. It made us a little dizzy,he added.

So with Dembele nearing the end of his Barcelona tenure, the Barcelona management has prioritized signing a replacement and a certain Raphinha of Leeds United seems to be topping the list.

Any deal regarding the 25-year-old Brazilian hinges on where his team finishes at the end of the campaign. If they are relegated, the player can be acquired for just €35 million. However, if in case the team avoids going down, any suitor will have to cover his release clause which is reportedly worth €75 million.

Shedding light on Barça’s interest, Laporta confirmed that Raphinha has, in fact, attracted attention.

“Raphinha is a player we really like and it’s true that Deco’s his agent. We’ve very good relationships,” said Laporta.

“I want to clarify that Deco’s not paid by the club. He will just help us because he dominates the Brazilian market.”

Furthermore, Laporta also confirmed that Barcelona have completed two signings for the upcoming season although he refused to mention any names.
