Barcelona 3-0 Elche: Match Review, Messi scores a brace

After a horrible week, Barcelona needed to get the frustration out of their system. As Lionel Messi and his teammates searched for a win, Barça disappointed in the first half.

The Catalans created better chances, as usual. However, something that does not seem to change this season, the finishing was horrible. Overall, Elche, much like Cádiz, decided to stay behind the ball and attack from counters.

Barcelona dominated, as they do against smaller teams, but could not get the breakthrough in the first half. They had to rethink their plan in the second half.

A much livelier and lovelier half! Barcelona went back to the field with all guns blazing and flexed their muscles.

In truth, the Catalans had so much quality on the pitch that the scoreline and the second-half performance was expected. However, it was an overall great display from the side. Quite frankly, this was … Read the rest

3 Players Barcelona can sell to ease their financial burden

A debt of €1.173 billion, more than €700 million of which is short term, has sent FC Barcelona down a rabbit hole. The club’s gross mismanagement on both sporting as well as financial levels is no longer a secret. The former board of directors, led by president Josep Maria Bartomeu has consistently spent inordinate amounts of money on ludicrous signings. Most of which have come to bite the club back.

Now, they find themselves in a stickier situation than ever, with an astronomically high wage bill and multiple liabilities to clubs across Europe for signings. In addition, Lionel Messi’s future at Barcelona hangs in the balance. If the club are to conduct any business whatsoever, it will have to begin by offloading a few players.

After Ronald Koeman arrived at the club following the disastrous end to the 2019-20 season, a few key names have already been sold. As the … Read the rest

“I want him out” – These Liverpool fans fume as “dumb” Reds player appears to like Everton star’s Instagram post after derby embarrassment

Liverpool star Roberto Firmino has risked the wrath of the Reds fanbase by appearing to like an Everton star’s Instagram post – which includes a picture of him celebrating at Anfield.

As if the Reds’ shocking form of late, which has essentially ended their defence of the Premier League title, was not bad enough, Jurgen Klopp’s men were nothing short of dire in Saturday’s 2-0 Merseyside Derby defeat.

It was the first time they’ve lost to their rivals on home soil in the 21st century, and considering the current mood around the club, it came at the worst possible time.

As has this pretty inexcusable action from Roberto Firmino, which has seen him like an Instagram post shared by Everton star and international teammate Richarlison, where he can be seen celebrating after scoring early on in the contest.

Barcelona have been architects of their own downfall by one simple transfer

For Barcelona, selling their only elite striker and third-highest goalscorer of all time was never going to end well. Especially not when they let him go almost for free and to one of their biggest and most dangerous rivals. Atletico Madrid have been on top of the world since Luis Suarez arrived at the club. Barcelona however, have subsequently been treading in muddy waters.

The Uruguayan has been banging in the goals for fun with Los Colchoneros since the beginning of the 2020-21 season. With 16 strikes, he is the joint top scorer in La Liga alongside his great friend and former teammate Lionel Messi. The former, however, is seeing much better days with his new club than his Argentine contemporary.

Barcelona have been in a state of heavy transition since a devastating end to their 2019-20 season. A campaign that was followed by the materialization of the gross mismanagement … Read the rest

Player Ratings: Barcelona 1-1 Cadiz — Disappointing, yet again

Guest Contributor: Darren Looney

Yesterday provided Barca fans with a spark of hope after Atletico Madrid handed Ronald Koeman’s side a lifeline back into the title race. But just like midweek, that pre-game hope of grabbing that lifeline was squashed by another disappointing result, this time at the hands of Cadiz.

Barca were trying to make it 8 wins in a row in La Liga, and the Catalan side controlled the game for 84 minutes, which is when Cadiz decided to start pressing the ball. But once again, in a movie we’ve all seen before, the second this team comes under any bit of serious pressure, someone in the backline tends to collapse under it.

Here’s how the Barcelona players dared against Cadiz in today’s game and the ratings we believe they deserve for their performances.

Boca Juniors reach an agreement to extend their starlet left-back for two more season

Frank Fabra’s contract with Boca Juniors was due to expire, but Xeneizes supporters can now put any fears of the Colombian international departing to rest.

The Argentine side announced the extension of the 29-year-old as the agreement will see Fabra remain with Boca Juniors through December 2023. The left-back has made 101 appearances for the club, where he’s scored eight goals and 13 assists.

Barcelona with a shot to grab La Liga as Atletico drop points against Levante

Life has been far from easy this season for Barcelona in terms of results. As the Blaugranas continue to steam roll over minnows, big teams have always proved to be too big a mountain for the team to conquer. Be it Juventus, PSG, Sevilla, Real Madrid, or runaway Liga leaders Atletico Madrid, the Catalan outfit has continually fallen short of their mark.

However, it seems that even a disappointing season could prove to be enough for them as Atletico steer clear of the good-form highway, falling 0-2 to defeat against Levante. This loss comes at the back of their 1-1 draw against the same outfit, who were denied a double over Atleti courtesy of a heavily deflected shot from Marcos Llorente.
