Jordan Henderson on the ‘different qualities’ he brings to the ‘Fabinho role’ when filling in for him in the Liverpool team

Fabinho looks set to return to the Liverpool team for the Champions League final but Jordan Henderson is confident he can fill in for the Brazilian.

Speaking with Sky Sports, the 31-year-old said: “It’s a different role altogether, but I’ve played that role for a number of years now. I’ve played it a lot this season and also over the past four or five years really. I’ve played in big games in that role.

“Yes, you do have to adapt, but that is because of the position and the role that it is.

“All that could go wrong has gone wrong” – Arsenal legend bemoans “abysmal” Gunners collapse

Arsenal legend Michael Thomas has bemoaned the Gunners’ collapse as they now look set to miss out on the top four.

Back-to-back defeats for Mikel Arteta’s side against Tottenham and Newcastle United have all but ended the club’s hope of qualifying for the Champions League.

It now requires a massive stroke of luck for Arsenal on the final day of the season, with Arteta’s side needing to beat Everton, who are fighting for their lives just above the relegation zone, whilst also hoping for an unlikely win for Norwich City over Spurs.

Arsenal hero Thomas is certainly disappointed with how it’s played out, describing the performance at Newcastle in particular as “abysmal”.

“All that could go wrong has gone wrong,” Thomas told CaughtOffside. “The decisions didn’t go the way we needed against Tottenham and the performance was well below par. Spurs didn’t have to be great to win the … Read the rest

Napoli have expressed their interest in loaning 32-year-old Barcelona midfielder

A recent report from Diario SPORT has offered an update on the future of Miralem Pjanic. The Bosnian midfielder is set to return from his loan spell at Besiktas later this summer, but he is not involved in Xavi Hernandez’s plans for next season.

Pjanic had joined the club in 2020 in a swap deal involving Arthur Melo. But the midfielder never really managed to establish himself as a key player at Camp Nou, often lacking game-time.

He featured in just over 600 minutes of league football during his maiden season in La Liga. His lack of prominence in the first team saw Barça sanction a loan deal to Besiktas last summer.

One year later, the Bosnian could once again be on the move, but this time on a permanent deal as Barcelona look to cash in on him in the summer transfer window.

Pjanic does have two years remaining … Read the rest

‘Definitely not’ – Jurgen Klopp provides fitness update on Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk ahead of final three games of the season

Jurgen Klopp was able to provide Liverpool supporters with an update on the fitness of Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk.

Speaking with the media ahead of the Southampton game, the 54-year-old provided news on both men: “No. Virg definitely not [ready for Southampton] but that was pretty much clear before the [Chelsea] game already that I thought, ‘OK, this is the game now.’ He played really a lot and then Saturday-Tuesday again. It was clear.

“They are both OK. So, the target would be for both that they can be involved again on the weekend. Properly involved, bench or whatever and a few minutes or start, I don’t know, we will see that, because that would then be perfect for the game [Champions League final].

Ex-Red Devil names four most disappointing Manchester United players this season

Former Manchester United midfielder Luke Chadwick has picked out four of the club’s most disappointing performers this season.

It’s been a miserable campaign at Old Trafford with the club missing out on a place in the top four and once again failing to win any trophies.

This saw Man Utd sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer earlier in the season, but interim manager Ralf Rangnick hasn’t done much better since coming in.

Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside, Chadwick made it clear he felt that the whole squad has to take responsibility for this poor season, with a few names in particular standing out as disappointing.

“It’s unfair to single out any individual. The squad as a whole really needs to take responsibility. It doesn’t seem right to say someone’s been worse than the rest, if results aren’t going well it’s a collective responsibility. I don’t think any of the players have performed … Read the rest

Barcelona will try to include Dutchman in the operation to sign Bayern Munich forward

Buoyed by Robert Lewandowski’s confirmation of his rejection of a potential renewal at Bayern Munich, FC Barcelona have kickstarted their operation to sign the revered frontman.

Reports coming out of Germany suggest Bayern Munich are softening their stance on Lewandowski and could entertain a sale if Barça come up with a bid of around €40 million.

A recent report from Mundo Deportivo has offered a status update, claiming Barcelona are set to begin negotiations in the coming days and are weighing up a bid of up to €35 million.

A crucial piece of the puzzle could be Memphis Depay. Since Barcelona are ideally not in a position to shell out anything over €30 million over an individual, they are open to sacrificing a few of their own stars in an attempt to lower the valuation.

Depay has emerged as one such candidate for Barça. The report indicates the Catalans are … Read the rest

Arsenal looking to beat Juventus to Serie A attacking full-back by making player swap offer

Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Udinese attacking full-back Nahuel Molina.

That’s according to a recent report from Italian outlet Calciomercato, who claims Juventus have already made their interest in the young Argentine known but the ‘Old Lady’ now face competition from Mikel Arteta’s Gunners.

Molina, 24, joined Udinese in 2020 following a free transfer from South American side Boca Juniors.

Since then Molina has shone under manager Gabriele Cioffi, who has often deployed the 24-year-old as a more right-sided attack-minded winger.

Having featured in 34 Serie A matches so far this season, the Argentina international has reached double figures when it comes to direct goal contributions.

Barcelona do not rule out the sale of ter Stegen in the summer – report

The upcoming summer transfer window will be a hugely vital one for Barcelona. Following a trophyless campaign, the Blaugrana need to strengthen their roster adequately in order to challenge Real Madrid for the title and make a splash in Europe as well.

But with the financial situation at the club being as it is, Barça will need to make some big sales in the summer in order to generate funds that they can reinvest in bolstering the squad.

It has been claimed that the Catalan giants might look to sell midfield mainstay, Frenkie de Jong, for economic reasons should an extraordinary offer arrive for him in the summer.

Now, SPORT reports that a similar case could ensue with goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, as Barcelona are not ruling out the possibility of selling the German goalkeeper should a significant offer arrive for him in the summer.

Alan Shearer praises ‘sensational’ 23-year-old Liverpool star for his FA Cup final display

Alan Shearer has praised Trent Alexander-Arnold for his performance in yesterday’s FA Cup final victory over Chelsea.

The Academy product put in a superb display to ensure that at the age of just 23, he’s won every single major trophy possible at club level, and the Match of the Day pundit couldn’t help but applaud the scouser.

“I think Trent Alexander-Arnold was sensational today,” Shearer told BBC Sport (via HITC).

“Both defensively and some of his passing was outrageous. For him then to go and stick a penalty away as cool as he did, I thought he was fantastic,” he added.

Often criticsed for his defensive ability, the England international put in a solid showing and helped his side to yet another clean sheet – he also dispatched his penalty with great technique during the shootout
