(Videos) AC Milan score quickfire double in two minutes to stun Liverpool in first-half Anfield comeback

AC Milan looked set to go into half-time at least a goal down having come up against an aggressive Liverpool side at Anfield in the opening 45 minutes.

Despite being outplayed for large portions of the first-half, however, Stefano Pioli’s men rallied late before the whistle to fire in two goals in the space of a couple of minutes to lead at L4.

The goals came courtesy of Ante Rebic and Brahim Diaz, with the pair stunning Jurgen Klopp’s Reds to hand the visiting Serie A giants the lead going into the second-half.

“When they copy us, we think it’s something new” – Brazilian manager criticizes Pep Guardiola’s tatics

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has numerous fans in the sport of football due to his playing style. However, one manager in Brazil isn’t entirely impressed with the Spaniard’s ‘tiki-taka’ considering that manager coaches have been doing that in the South American country.

In an interview with the program Resenha de Primeira (via ESPN Brazil) on YouTube, former Brazilian manager Celso Roth spoke about the Manchester City manager’s style of play and stated that Brazilian coaches have already done the ‘tiki-taka’ in the past, even before Guardiola.

“Guardiola started with a way of playing for Barcelona, ??the “tik-tok,” “tok-tik” (sic), which was originally Brazilian. Everyone thought it was new. We copy others, but when they copy us, We think it’s something new. With all due respect to Guardiola, he left Barcelona, ??went to Germany, and had a problem. He arrived at Manchester (City), had a problem,” Roth said.

Report: Koeman has four games to prove himself

An emergency meeting held immediately after the 3-0 hammering to Bayern Munich did not bring any radical changes in the team or on the sidelines.

Ronald Koeman’s continuity was a topic extensively discussed by Rafa Yuste, Mateu Alemany, and Joan Laporta in the meeting, but the consensus reached was that it was too early to jump to any decisions.

Javi Miguel from AS reports that Koeman will have four games to prove himself at the Catalan club. The games against Granada, Cadiz, Levante, and Benfica will be crucial in deciding if the Dutchman continues or not. Any slip-up in these games will jeopardize his position.

Moreover, the clash against Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano will not count in deciding his continuity. A defeat against Los Rojiblancos is considered acceptable under the notion of the growth or transition of the team.

That said, the coming month becomes altho more important … Read the rest

Barcelona 0-3 Bayern Munich: Match Review

On a highly-anticipated Tuesday evening, Barcelona took on Bayern Munich in their own backyard for the first time after their humbling defeat in Rome. The opening Champions League clash promised to be a cracker, and needless to say, lived up to its hype.

Much speculation surrounded Ronald Koeman’s starting lineup on the night, especially because of the injuries in the side. The Dutchmen went for a 5-3-2 as predicted by multiple outlets with Gerard Pique, Ronald Araujo, and Eric Garcia in the defensive wall.

Sergino Dest was not fit to start, which meant that Sergi Roberto took on wingback duties with Jordi Alba. Luuk de Jong received his debut and started alongside Memphis Depay.

First half

The game started off on a balanced note. Neither side dominated the opening period of the game, with both teams having their moments.

In just under five minutes, Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich was … Read the rest

GUEST: The shaky – and getting shakier – case for FSG at Liverpool

By Max Gallagher (@maxgallwrites)

The following is a guest article by the aforementioned author – linked above – and is not necessarily a representative of opinions held by anyone at Empire of the Kop…

Recently, I posted a tweet expressing my support for Fenway Sports Group. They are by no means perfect, but I feel they’ve been getting a bit of a hard time lately. The tweet did not go down well. In fairness, I probably deserved more stick. FSG are testing the patience of most Liverpool fans at the moment. And, as we all know, Twitter is the kind of place where if you express your preference for marmite, somewhere a militia will form and threaten to come to your house to cut out your tongue and staple it to your forehead. Nevertheless, I am going to attempt to put an argument together here that John Henry Read the rest

Of course, these stories usually generate controversies and debates, but not so much for this South American country since most of the included players were the best in their position.

This ideal starting eleven for Colombia is a mix of players from different eras, but the majority come from the country’s golden generation, which was the … Read the rest

Report: Barcelona closely following former academy goalkeeper

It seems like Dani Olmo might not be the only former La Masia prospect that Barcelona are looking to sign. According to reputed journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Catalans are keeping a close watch on AFC Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana.

The 25-year-old started out at the academy of former Barcelona striker Samuel Eto’o in his homeland, Cameroon, before making his way to La Masia in 2010. Onana spent more than four years on the club’s books before eventually moving on to Ajax in January 2015.

Having made his debut a year later, Onana went on to establish himself as the first-choice for the Dutch giants, making 204 appearances, in which he has 83 clean sheets.

Onana, however, has not featured for the Eredivisie outfit since January earlier this year after having been hit with a doping ban which runs till November. And with his contract set to … Read the rest

Full-backs were fantastic [against Leeds], Trent Alexader-Arnold with another assist. This kid is probably going to break all Premier League records by the time he’s finished – for assists from a defensive position,” the former Liverpool player said.
