Barcelona’s second-choice goalkeeper spot in deliberation as Neto refuses to leave

Barcelona are facing a major dilemma in the goalkeeping department heading into the new season, as per Diario SPORT.

The Spanish news outlet suggests there is a great amount of confusion within the Barça camp over the goalkeeping unit.

While Marc-Andre ter Stegen is the undisputed starter in between the sticks next season, Barcelona are unsure over the role of second and third-choice goalkeepers, especially in the midst of Neto’s uncertain future at the club.

Barcelona want the former Juventus star to leave Camp Nou in the summer, as he is already sitting on a lucrative contract. Neto, though, has no intention to leave the club and wants to remain at Camp Nou until his contract expires at the end of next season.

Neto’s prolonged stay at the club could be a devastating prospect for the younger players as well as Barcelona themselves.

FSG were ‘happy’ to pay £73m for Jadon Sancho last summer but balked at one demand, says David Lynch

Manchester United star Jadon Sancho reportedly was an admired target at Anfield prior to his switch away from Borussia Dortmund with Liverpool’s owners, FSG, prepared to fork out the £73m necessary to sign the wide man.

This update comes courtesy of David Lynch who notes that the player’s wage demands came in the way of a deal being finalised between the two outfits.

“Jadon Sancho had two major admirers at Anfield in manager Jurgen Klopp and his assistant Pep Lijnders, while owners Fenway Sports Group were more than happy to meet Borussia Dortmund’s £73m price tag to secure his signature,” the reporter wrote for The National News.

“Unfortunately, any potential move was scuppered when the Englishman’s wage expectations became clear, paving the way for him to sign a £270,000-per-week deal at Old Trafford.

“He’s Ten Hag’s man” – Manchester United urged to pay up for potential €85million transfer

Manchester United need to be bold and pay the big money required to deliver the transfer of Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

That’s the view of former Red Devils midfielder Luke Chadwick, who also spoke to CaughtOffside about Richard Arnold’s chat with fans at the pub earlier this week.

The new Man Utd CEO gave some honest answers to a few supporters over drinks after learning that they planned to protest outside his house.

Chadwick praised Arnold for the things he said, and felt it was encouraging to hear from him that money would not be an issue in the pursuit of the club’s transfer targets this summer.

With that in mind, Chadwick went on to say he’d like to see United pay up to bring in De Jong for new manager Erik ten Hag.

“It’s quite a strange situation…from what I understand, the meeting with the fans at the … Read the rest

As a result, the 32-year-old has made just 21 appearances for the Blaugrana to date, with four of them coming in the 2021/22 campaign.

Neto has been pushing for an exit from Camp Nou since last year as he sought regular playing time. And the Catalans were prepared to sanction an exit for the shot-stopper this summer with Inaki Pena primed to take over as ter Stegen’s understudy from the upcoming season.

The 27-year-old made 22 appearances for the Reds last term but registered 11 goal contributions across several impressive showings and cameos in the 2021/22 campaign.

“Most of the matches I played in (mainly cup matches) were ones that nobody was really interested in. Even if I got a result, it wouldn’t have any repercussions,” the Japanese international was quoted as saying by Soccer Digest Web (as translated on Reddit).

“I didn’t think about those external things at all, I just pushed myself hard to prove my own worth.

“As a player, I have never had such a difficult period of not being able to compete. I was conscious of how I could maintain my condition in that situation and how I could use my frustration to the next.
