Former coach sings praises of Frenkie de Jong

There is no denying it has taken him a while, but Frenkie de Jong is finally starting to show his true self at the Camp Nou. The young Dutchman’s new and more advanced role has seen him much more involved and surprisingly, more lethal than ever.

Not only is he contributing a lot to Barcelona’s progression and build-up but he’s also scoring goals and assisting them on a regular basis. Of course, credit where credit is due, Ronald Koeman has had a hand in this.

The still fresh gaffer has experimented a lot with his countryman’s position and role and now, as it seems, he’s finally found a winner. Interestingly, when speaking on SER’s Què t’hi jugues, De Jong’s former coach, Jos Bogers, made an interesting remark.

He said, as relayed by SPORT, that: “De Jong always wants to improve. When he has played a great game he always wants to play better. And this is what makes him special, he is a TOP player.”

Looking at the whole situation, this statement truly does ring true. After all, De Jong wasn’t happy with his own performances for quite some time and he worked hard to improve.

Now, that hard work seems to finally be paying off, big time. The young midfielder already was among Barcelona’s most important players but in his current form and with bags of potential still to spare, the sky is the limit.

The Catalans have a new challenge this Sunday already and it’ll be interesting to see whether De Jong keeps on improving and what the future holds for this generational midfielder.

If the early signs are any indication at all, it could be great news for Barcelona and their fans.
