How Do I Setup Pieces?

Pieces can be placed on the board by dragging them from the palette onto a square on the board. Also, pieces that are already on the board can be dragged to other squares (dragging a piece off the board removes it).

Drag a piece onto the square.

To setup the chess pieces in the starting chess position, click "Reset Pieces".

Setup the pieces to the starting position by clicking 'Reset Pieces'.

How Do I Delete a Piece?

Delete a piece by dragging it off the board or by dragging another piece on top of it.

How Do I Create an Image?

Click "Create Image!" to create an image based on the current board position and settings.

Click 'Create Image!' to create an image based on the current board position and styles.

How Do I Change the Piece Style?

Click the circle next to the piece style to select it. The currently selected piece style is reflected in the palette pieces and the board pieces. Currently, there are 4 different styles.

Click the circle next to the piece style to select it.

How Do I Change the Colors?

The color of the light squares, dark squares, descriptive text, and backgound can all adjusted to your preferences (the text and background aren't shown when the Coordinates and Details are turned off)

To change the color, select the circle next to the component you would like to adjust. Then, drag the sliders on the hue (rainbow) bar, saturation bar, and lightness bar.

Drag the Hue (Rainbow), Saturation, and Lighness sliders to get the desired color for the selected component.

ChessUp uses the Hue/Saturation/Lightness model for color controls. The best way to choose a color is to select the hue, and then adjust the saturation (how "gray" the color is) and lightness (how close to white or black the color is). Some importation tips to remember:

The color will always be white when the lightness is set to the maximum value (all the way to the right).

The color will always be black when the lightness is set to the minimum value (all the way to the left).

The color will always be a shade of gray when the saturation is set to the minimum value (all the way to the left).

How Can I Use FEN Notation?

Instead of dragging pieces to setup a chess position, you can enter FEN notation. Click "Enter FEN", enter the text in the popup window, and then click "OK". The position will then be represented on the board.

Every time you create in image in ChessUp, the FEN notation is shown below the image.
