Manchester United are reportedly excited at the possibility of signing Sporting Lisbon star Nuno Mendes as they look to continue the evolution of the squad.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been attempting to get rid of the deadwood in the first-team by investing in younger talent who can move the club forward.
The legendary Norwegian has been determined to restart the project to restore United to its former glory and has been adamant it needs to be done the right way.
Mendes represents the type of signing fans have grown used to during his reign so it’s no real surprise to hear of interest in him.
However, there are question marks over whether he is needed or not given the position he typically players in for Sporting.
According to SportWitness, Record claim the Red Devils are delighted with Mendes’ development and at the prospect of signing him as they have the financial capabilities to do so.
The young Portuguese is mainly a left-back and given how Alex Telles was just signed from Porto, it doesn’t make sense to chase another so soon.
Solskjaer also appears to have faith in Luke Shaw so the only real position open for Mendes is his back-up role as a centre-back.
He has played there in the past and he could work his way up the ranks as there are no real competitors for the position.
