Interlagos and Catalunya expected to return on 2021 F1 calendar
The calendar for the 2021 season in Formula 1 seems almost complete. Following the announcement that F1 will go to Saudi Arabia for the first time next year, it has already been indicated that a provisional calendar will be announced in the coming weeks. The current worldwide situation will still play a major role in this, although the paddock is likely to travel around the world again.
For example, we are going to Brazil again next year, according to RaceFans. For a long time there was doubt whether the choice was made for the iconic Interlagos circuit or for the new circuit in Rio de Janeiro. There the plan is to build a new circuit, but due to uncertainties with the surroundings those plans have been delayed.
Interlagos is therefore allowed to organise a Grand Prix for the 38th time. This while the contract between FOM and the organiser actually expired after the race this season. That fate also seemed to strike for another circuit, namely the circuit in Barcelona. However, according to RaceFans, Circuit de Catalunya will also get a spot on the 2021 calendar.
With that there will be a calendar with at least 22 races and the expectation is that the calendar will be announced officially this week, in the week of the Turkish Grand Prix. The red thread of the calendar will correspond with the original plan for the calendar in 2020, with of course the new race in Jeddah. That race will be the Grand Prix for the traditional closing of the season in Abu Dhabi.
