Minutes after the victory in the Champions League debut of the season, Barcelona made the renewals of Gerard Piqué, Marc-André ter Stegen, Clément Lenglet, and Frenkie de Jong official. These agreements have been closed after weeks of negotiations and include a temporary salary adjustment (reduction) due to the financial crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Gerard Piqué: 2024
Piqué agreed to extend his contract until June 30, 2024 with a release clause of 500 million euros. The player will defend the Blaugrana colors for several more seasons and is currently playing his thirteenth season with his beloved club.
Marc-André ter Stegen: 2025
Ter Stegen extended his contract until June 30, 2025. This renewal includes a release clause of 500 million euros. This means that if all goes well, the German goalkeeper will complete 10 years at the Catalan club.
Clément Lenglet: 2026
Barcelona and Lenglet agreed to renew the Frenchman’s contract until 2026 with a release clause of 300 million euros. This was one of the crucial deals for the club, as Lenglet is currently the only candidate to start as a left centre-back.
Frenkie de Jong: 2026
De Jong signed his new contract until June 30, 2026. This contract includes a release clause of 400 million euros. Frenkie arrived in Catalonia in the summer of 2019 with a contract until 2025, thus the Dutchman has basically extended his contract for another year.
Let’s remember that these were the four players who accepted the pay cut suggested by Bartomeu’s board. All of them will go through the pay cut this season, and their salary will increase over the coming years.
