Football has probably witnessed the craziest 48 hours in the history of the sport, which started with Real Madrid Florentino Perez declaring that he was saving the sport by creating the European Super League. He claimed that the sport was becoming too boring, especially for people in the ages of 16-24. However, since then, it has been turned on its head, with several clubs officially withdrawing from the Super League.
It started with the likes of Jurgen Klopp and James Milner speaking about it during their pre and post game interviews, which eventually led to the likes of Pep Guardiola and several players from the Premier League speaking up as well. Soon, in an official statement, Manchester City confirmed their withdrawal from the league, followed by Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal, and Tottenham Hotspur. And if Tancredi Palmeri of BeIN Sports is to believed, the ESL has been suspended.
Suspended does not mean cancelled obviously, as it will require an insane amount of legal measure to cancel something that has been in the making for a decade. We can hope, though, that this continues in the correct direction, as it seems to be in, right now.
