Over the last week or so, reports of a potential swap deal between Antoine Griezmann and Atlético Madrid’s Saúl Ñiguez have dominated the headlines. Now, new information has surfaced regarding Saúl’s future.
According to AS, Joshua Barnett, Saúl’s agent, has revealed that “Saúl will do for his future whatever is best for Saúl.”
The Spaniard has no shortage of potential destinations, as Barça’s interest is rivaled by Liverpool and Manchester United in particular. Still, Barnett adds: “Nothing is decided. Saúl has as many reasons to stay as well as to go.”
The report also states that the potential swap deal is far from closed. Although, the two clubs remain in constant contact.
Saúl’s 2020/21 campaign was largely one to forget, as sub-par form and emergence of players like Marcos Llorente resulted in less playing time. If the Catalans can offer him a more prominent role, that may be enough to push things in their favor.
In all, it is a move that has been welcomed by some Culés due to the club’s necessity to limit its monstrous wage bill and Saúl’s fit on the team. On the other hand, many are concerned about potentially strengthening the defending La Liga champions.
