Teenage midfield prodigy rejected Arsenal to sign for Barcelona – report
Barcelona recently confirmed that they had completed the signing of Spanish prodigy Pablo Torre from Racing Santander.
The 18-year-old attacking midfielder is enjoying a fine season with the lower league outfit, bagging seven goals and nine assists from 27 appearances in all competitions.
Torre had been attracting serious interest from Barça’s rivals Real Madrid. But the youngster decided to snub the Spanish capital club to join the Blaugrana and will be arriving at Camp Nou in the summer.
SPORT is now reporting that not only did the Spanish Under-19 international reject Real Madrid, but he also turn down Premier League giants Arsenal in favour of a transfer to Barcelona.
The report claims that Torre is an ardent follower of Premier League football and enjoys the competitive nature of the English top-flight. And, it seems like he had admirers in England, with Arsenal having been keen on signing the youngster.
The Gunners are building an exciting, youthful team under Mikel Arteta and wanted the Racing Santander ace to be a part of the project at the Emirates Stadium. However, despite his love of Premier League football, Torre rejected Arsenal in order to join Barcelona.
The main reason behind his decision to opt to move to Catalonia was manager Xavi Hernandez, whose intervention helped the youngster decide in favour of Barça despite a superior financial offer on the table from Real Madrid.
The 18-year-old prospect, who is currently away on international duty with the Spanish Under-19 setup, will join the Blaugrana at the end of the season. He will hope to make a solid impression on Xavi during the pre-season and get a chance at first-team football straightaway.
