Valtteri Bottas continued his impressive form in practise by topping the timesheet with a 1.17.940 in an FP2 session that was full of drama and controversy. The red flag was brought out twice, firstly for Pierre Gasly after his Alpha Tauri caught fire and secondly when Max Verstappen and Lance Stroll collided at turn 1.
Fourth in Practice One, and Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc continued the positive afternoon for the Maranello team. Charles was in third place in second free practice until the late stages of the session, but Lando Norris outpaced Charles by a tenth to take third place off the Ferrari.
Future Scuderia Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz and current German driver Sebastian Vettel rounded off the top five.
There was a slight change to the schedule for second practice as the first 30 minutes was dedicated to testing a new Pirelli prototype tyre.
The last free practice session at the Portimao circuit takes place tomorrow, ahed of the qualifying session for the 2020 Portuguese Grand Prix.
