Barcelona are planning to bring in a new top-quality striker in the summer transfer window, with Erling Haaland being a top priority for the club.
However, the Catalans are aware of the complications that might arise in their pursuit of the Norwegian international, especially on the financial side of things. As a result, they are keeping an eye out on other options in case the Haaland deal does not materialise.
And, as per SPORT, Real Sociedad striker Alexander Isak is being looked at as Plan B for such a scenario. The Swede is widely regarded as one of the most talented young forwards around, although he is going through a bit of a lean patch this season.
However, Barcelona rate the 22-year-old highly and would look to bring him in, if Haaland does not arrive. But, those plans could be foiled by Premier League giants Arsenal, who are also pushing to sign the former Borussia Dortmund ace in the summer.
The Gunners had attempted to land Isak in January but a move did not go through as Sociedad demand his €80 million release clause be paid in full. While their stance on the matter has not changed, Arsenal are hoping to convince them to lower their valuation.
At the same time, the north London club have also been in contact with the centre-forward’s representative to make them aware of their interest, as they look to replace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
However, as per the report, Isak would prefer to move to Barcelona after having come close to joining the Catalans last year. Indeed, the club had made attempts to sign the Swedish international last summer but financial problems meant that the move did not see the light of the day.
Isak, though, is aware of Barça’s continued interest and would wait for their decision before intensifying talks with Arsenal. It remains to be seen if the Catalans make a move for Isak or look at someone like Lautaro Martinez if they do not sign Haaland.
