Barcelona given a major boost in Robert Lewandowski pursuit
All does not seem to be well between Bayern Munich and Robert Lewandowski, amid speculations surrounding his future.
The 33-year-old has been with the Bavarian giants for eight years now, having arrived from Borussia Dortmund on a Bosman deal in 2014. He has been a prolific performer for the German champions since and has enjoyed another spectacular campaign in 2021/22.
Lewandowski helped Bayern beat his former club Borussia Dortmund on Saturday in the process leading Die Roten to their tenth consecutive Bundesliga title.
In the aftermath of the game, the Poland international was asked about his contract situation and future at Bayern Munich. His response, however, hinted that things are not alright behind the scenes and he could be on his way out.
Now, Sport BILD’s Tobi Altschaffl has come up with a fresh update on Lewandowski’s situation stating that the 33-year-old has been left surprised and disappointed by Bayern Munich.
It is claimed that during the striker’s first meeting with club directors Oliver Kahn and Hasan Salihamidzic, there were no talks held over a new contract for the Polish hitman and no discussions took place over his future.
It has left the former Borussia Dortmund forward disappointed, which could end up working in favour of Barcelona.
The Catalans are intent on signing Lewandowski as they look to add a marquee goalscorer to their ranks in the summer. President Joan Laporta is of the belief that a deal can be worked out for the prolific goalscorer.
And his delicate situation with Bayern Munich certainly comes as a boost for Barcelona’s hopes of landing him in the summer window.
Lewandowski scored his 48th goal of the season in all competitions on Saturday against Borussia Dortmund. With still three games left in the league, the 33-year-old is very much likely to add more to his tally.
However, it remains to be seen if this campaign proves to be the Poland captain’s last at the Allianz Arena.
