Barcelona midfielder unsettled after the sacking of Ronald Koeman

After a couple of disappointing performances and a show of frustration following his substitution at the weekend against Rayo Vallecano, Frenkie de Jong finds himself at the centre of intense transfer speculation.

The midfielder, who has emerged as a transfer target for Manchester United and several other clubs, is believed to be considering his future at Camp Nou as he is discontent and frustrated.

Now, SPORT has come up with a fresh report claiming that Frenkie de Jong is very much unsettled at Camp Nou and has been so, ever since Ronald Koeman was sacked from his managerial duties last October.

The report claims that de Jong had a very close bond with Koeman, considering it was the Dutch tactician that had handed him his debut for the Netherlands in 2018.

Ever since they have been very close and had forged a special connection during their time together at Camp Nou, both inside the dressing room and outside of it. It is even claimed that the 24-year-old’s partner, Mikky Kiemeney, used to spend a lot of time with Bartina Koeman in Barcelona.

And following Koeman’s sacking in the early stages of the 2021/22 season, things have changed for de Jong. The midfielder remains a popular figure inside the dressing room and new manager Xavi Hernandez has continued to back the Netherlands international.

De Jong also has compatriots like Memphis Depay and Luuk de Jong in the Barcelona dressing room. Despite this, he is still unsettled by Koeman’s sacking and will consider exiting the Catalan club in the summer, with Manchester United emerging as a potential destination.

With Erik ten Hag, his former manager at Ajax, set to take over at Old Trafford, a reunion could appeal to the Netherlands international. It remains to be seen how the situation develops in the coming weeks as speculations continue to grow.
