World class centre back becomes available as Man United continue rebuild

It’s no secret that Manchester United are looking to improve the squad and a partner for Harry Maguire is a top priority.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could also be looking at left back and central midfield options to take the club back to the pinnacle of world football, and this makes David Alaba an ideal signing for Ole.

The versatile left back, 28, has rejected an improved contract with the Bundesliga powerhouse which gives United reason to believe Alaba is open to a move.

Christian Falk, head of football for SportBild, denies the report from SkySports:

Despite predominantly playing at left back, his technical and physical qualities have meant Alaba has adapted his game to play as a left sided central defender and in central midfield for Bayern and the Austrian national side, making him an ideal signing for Ole as … Read the rest

Newcastle and Aston Villa among multiple PL clubs set to fight for Brewster, but Rhian wants to be ‘the striker’ at Liverpool

What to do with Rhian Brewster this season…?

The youngster is currently enjoying the pre-season training camp in Austria, and will likely get minutes in the summer friendlies before the September start of the new campaign.

But it would not be beneficial for the 20-year-old to spend 2020/21 with our U23s, as he proved during his loan spell with Swansea that he’s now too good for that level – scoring 11 goals in 22 appearances in the Championship.

According to Goal, Newcastle, Aston Villa, Fulham, Crystal Palace, Burnley and Brighton have all asked the Reds about a season-long loan deal for Brewster, but the player himself would prefer to stay…

“Ultimately, I want to be at Liverpool next season,” he told The Beautiful Game podcast recently. “I want to be fighting for a spot to play.

“Who is not going to want to play at the home of the Read the rest

Announcement: Il Maestro – Thoughts on the appointment of Andrea Pirlo

Saturday 8th August was a circus of the bizarre. It was as if the sky became the ground, the compass spun, the poles of the planet played musical chairs. Not for long, but long enough to cause all of us to experience a dizzying, yet intoxicating sense of complete bewilderment we will likely never experience again.

Of course we found our feet once again on terra firma, the compass steadied and the lunatic music stopped. Yet still, a fair few days later, that sense of bewilderment remains as an afterglow, a sensation that anything is possible, nothing is certain prevails.

We are facing a future with very little to base in prediction and expectation on the past. These times are stardust, and must be embraced with a leaning towards appreciation of the carnival of existence, which for many, all too quickly, all too early in their lives, gives way to

Stunning statistic shows why Rashford declined in second-half of season

Manchester United fans are probably still licking their wounds following their loss to Sevilla and Marcus Rashford was one of the players who couldn’t save his team.

The talented Englishman faced some criticism from his fans as his form after football resumed has been sketchy, to say the least.

Rashford was United’s saviour in the first half of the season and was arguably their standout performer, putting in talismanic displays match after match from the left-wing.

However, his season was brutally interrupted by a long-term injury and he was not meant to play any part in the remainder of the campaign.

The global health crisis and temporary suspension of the league meant Rashford would be able to recover in time but he has been a little disappointing.

Scholes makes ridiculous point about Manchester United’s spending as LFC’s rivals crash out

Manchester United spend more money than any other club, bar Manchester City.

That is a fact, too. In the past five seasons, only their local rivals have spent more.

The likes of Paul Pogba, Harry Maguire, Romelu Lukaku, Bruno Fernandes, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Fred, to name but a few, have arrived for monstrous money.

But Paul Scholes thinks the only way forward for his former side is to spend some more!

He made these comments on BT Sport last night as Sevilla knocked United out of the Europa League – and naturally there was an online backlash…

Liverpool finished 33 points ahead of United in the Premier League after spending nothing last summer.

We think United will probably splash plenty of cash once again – but this won’t change the fact Ole-Gunner Solskjaer is th manager, David de Gea the keeper and Maguire the centre-half!

Valencia crisis deepens as players refuse to accept wage deferral

If the sales of Ferran Torres to Manchester City as well as Dani Parejo and Francis Coquelin to Villarreal weren’t a big enough sign that Valencia are once again in crisis, news that players left at the club aren’t being paid is only making a bad situation much worse.

According to Cadena Cope and cited by Football Espana, Valencia’s remaining club captains, Rodrigo Moreno, Jose Luis Gaya and Jaume Costa met with president Anil Murthy to speak about the lack of any form of salary payment since June.

As if that weren’t bad enough, a suggestion that the players accept IOU notes for now, essentially because the payment will be delayed and may not be made at all, hasn’t been received well by the dressing room.

MARCA, cited by Football Espana note the expiry dates of the IOU’s as being September 2021, meaning that it could be up … Read the rest

Arthur Melo to be released early?

A report from Spainish newspaper La Vanguardia suggests Brazilian midfielder Arthur Melo will terminate his Barcelona contract early in order to begin training with Juventus.

The 24-year-old refused to return to training with Barca earlier this month, prior to their Champions League elimination at the hand of Bayern Munich.

Initial reports suggested his decision to remain in Brazil would result in a hefty fine and possible sanction from the club, with Barcelona President Josep Bartomeu condemning Arthur’s decision:

“We reached an agreement for him to complete the season here, in both league and Champions League games,

“He is an important player, and he should be here to help the team. But he has made the decision not to come back.

“This is an unacceptable act. This is why we are exploring our options, and will open up a case against him, as there is no justification for his absence.” Source:

Everybody is excited to play again and to defend the season we had last season,he told the club’s official website while on training duty in Austria.
