Klopp laughs at Thiago question and tells journalist, ‘We have to see…’

Jurgen Klopp has played a straight bat to the Thiago transfer question – but his reaction proves that there is at least something in the story.

If Liverpool were NOT in for Thiago, he’d simply say as much, as he has plenty of times before – but in regards to the Spaniard – he chuckled – before rolling out the familiar (and rather tedious) line about COVID and finances.

Klopp did however admit that Chelsea’s approach to the transfer market has made him laugh – given their reckless spending amidst the pandemic.

“[laughs] There are a lot of interesting players out there, but if someone is interesting for us I can’t say right now. Due to COVID you have to think 5 times about what you can and what you can’t do…” he told an interview with Servus TV, translated by LFC Transfer Room on Twitter.

Chelsea can immediately recoup €20m as Chilwell signing frees up outcast to move on

Usually one player coming in results in another leaving the club, and that appears to be the case with Chelsea and Ben Chilwell.

The Guardian reported that Chelsea signed the Leicester City man for a fee of around £50m, so it will be interesting to see if he lives up to that price tag.

Any doubters will wonder if Chelsea have made an error by paying so much, but it looks much better when you realise they can immediately get some money back by selling Emerson Palmieri.

Lichtsteiner: ‘I have no doubts about Pirlo as coach’

Former Juventus right-back Stephan Lichtsteiner has no doubts about Andrea Pirlo as Juventus coach and expains why a ‘Champions League Curse’ can’t enter into the mindset of Juventini.

The Swiss Express spent seven years in Turin, playing alongside Pirlo for many of them, and was the first player to score at the new stadium in an official match, assisted of course, by the Maestro.

“Seven years at Juventus is worth twenty in another club,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport, “There is a very high pressure and it is the club itself that creates it, making you understand how important it is to win.

“You have to be very strong mentally to resist, and Juve gets inside you day after day: they don’t talk to you often, but they give you ‘Juventinita’ by example. Del Piero, Buffon, Chiellini, Pirlo: I looked at them and learned.”

Ferrari confirm they have identified ECU issue behind Charles Leclerc’s Spain DNF

After Charles Leclerc retired from the 2020 Spanish Grand Prix with an engine issue, Ferrari’s head of power unit Enrico Gualtieri has revealed that they have “identified the problem” ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix – where Leclerc took his first career F1 win last season. However, Leclerc isn’t confident of a repeat victory this time around…

Leclerc’s Spanish Grand Prix came to an end as he hit an electrical issue running in P10, undid his seatbelts, limped back to the pits, and was forced to retire in the pits on Lap 38. Approaching the Belgian round at Spa-Francorchamps, Ferrari’s Head of Power Unit detailed the results of the team’s investigation.

“In Barcelona, we paid a high price for a lack of reliability, and in fact we have now identified the problem with the electronic control unit that caused Charles’ retirement,” said Gualtieri – “We also suffered from not maximising … Read the rest

Arsenal have to sell, and the market knows it

Things are starting to move a little bit in the transfer market for Arsenal. Gabriel Magalhaes was in London yesterday to complete his move to Arsenal. There was a medical, everything appears to be sorted, and it’s now just the matter of an announcement. Hopefully there are no last minute hitches with photos or something to delay things.

In seriousness though, his arrival boosts our central defensive options, you can see how he might be seen as one to play alongside William Saliba in the future, but it also means our collection of central defenders has grown. Something’s gotta give there. And here’s the thing, the fact we’re completely overloaded in this position means our leverage in the market is not great.

Everyone knows we’ve got to sell, so it’s not as if interested clubs have to prise us away from assets we don’t want to lose, they know that … Read the rest

Djokovic's Night & Day Turnaround At The W&S Open

Novak Djokovic’s first two matches since the return of tennis have been night and day in more ways than one.

After clawing past Ricardas Berankis Monday evening, the World No. 1 was much sharper Tuesday afternoon, dismissing Tennys Sandgren 6-2, 6-4 to reach the Western & Southern Open quarter-finals. The top seed is now 20-0 in 2020, marking the second time he has started his career with a winning streak that long (41-0 in 2011).

Djokovic underwent a medical timeout in his first match against Berankis to have his neck worked on, also reaching for his head in the second set after an awkward landing. But the 2018 champion showed no physical issues in the third round, breaking in the first game of the match to set the tone.

This A Capella Cover of the Fall Guys Theme Song Is Very Good

Losing in Fall Guys is the absolute worst, especially when you’re very close to winning a match for the first time ever and some loser decides to pull you over the edge for no apparent reason. Sorry, I still have yet to win a crown and I blame the Yellow Team.

But the one good thing about losing is that you get to listen to the insanely good theme song while you’re waiting for the next match to load up and someone has made their own version of it.

Fall Guys player, actor, musician, and streamer, Elspeth Eastman, went out of her way to create her very own a capella beatbox cover of the Fall Guys theme song and the result is something truly catchy.

Southgate tips young Man Utd star as England's future

Manchester United star Mason Greenwood has been given a show of faith from England manager Gareth Southgate who insists the player is ready for the step up.

The academy product has received his first call up to the senior team after an impressive season where he managed to hit double figures in goals.

Greenwood became instrumental to United’s success in the second half of the season as became a regular name in the starting XI.

Up until that point, the young attacker usually got his minutes coming off the bench or in cup competitions.

Greenwood did so well at one point that some fans even felt signing Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho was not as much of a priority.

According to the FA website, Southgate said: “They’ve been involved with England’s development teams, so they are used to coming here – they are used to being part of an England team.… Read the rest

Klopp says ‘Bayern were lucky’ v PSG but explains huge respect for Hansi Flick

Jurgen Klopp has reacted to Bayern Munich’s Champions League Final victory over PSG.

On Sunday night, the Bundesliga champions beat the Ligue 1 champions to secure their sixth European Cup, thanks to a second-half goal by Frenchman Kingsley Coman.

Most of the media reaction has suggested that Bayern were dominant, but in reality, PSG had more gilt-edged chances and would have likely taken the lead if it wasn’t for the brilliance of Manuel Neuer and Kylian Mbappe’s poor finishing.

Klopp recognised as much, although did salute Hansi Flick, who has achieved an incredible amount in such a short space of time.

“It is difficult to write more history in eight months,” Klopp told ZDF of Flick.

“Hansi was lucky enough to have done such a good job as assistant coach to Niko Kovac that he was allowed to stay. And that worked quite well.

Barcelona are bracing themselves for an approach from Man United for Lionel Messi

The next few weeks at Barcelona are going to be fascinating, especially if Lionel Messi does manage to force his way out of the club.

The Argentine superstar is 33 so he probably has two or three years left at the highest level, so it does suggest that his next club will need to have a chance of immediate success.

It’s so easy to link him to Man City because of Pep Guardiola and their financial backing, but it also sounds like Man United are going to have a real run at trying to sign him.

They’ve been trying to sign a right sided forward all summer so Messi would be a perfect fit, while he would also bring a whole new level of threat that could elevate them to the elite level again.
