Papers: ‘Total War’ – Messi wants to go

By now everyone on the planet is aware that Lionel Messi wants to go. He wants to leave Barcelona and feels this is the end of his cycle. Of course, this morning, the papers are focusing exclusively on the Argentine’s decision and the battle with the board that’s on the horizon.

SPORT even call it ‘Total War‘ and it really does feel like it. Messi wants to go and is aiming to terminate his contract through the clause that allows him to leave for free.

The problem is, however, that the club say the clause had already expired so now the parties might go to court. Be that as it may, PSG, Manchester United, Man City and Inter are among the interested clubs.

Mundo Deportivo are saying practically the same thing. They call it the ‘Messi bomb‘ and also highlight the fact that he indeed wants … Read the rest

Barcelona are bracing themselves for an approach from Man United for Lionel Messi

The next few weeks at Barcelona are going to be fascinating, especially if Lionel Messi does manage to force his way out of the club.

The Argentine superstar is 33 so he probably has two or three years left at the highest level, so it does suggest that his next club will need to have a chance of immediate success.

It’s so easy to link him to Man City because of Pep Guardiola and their financial backing, but it also sounds like Man United are going to have a real run at trying to sign him.

They’ve been trying to sign a right sided forward all summer so Messi would be a perfect fit, while he would also bring a whole new level of threat that could elevate them to the elite level again.

BREAKING: Lionel Messi wants to leave Barcelona now

We all knew it had to happen eventually but not like this. According to the latest reports essentially from all the reliable Catalan journalists, Lionel Messi wants to leave Barcelona now.

The message was apparently faxed through to the club executives and the Argentine’s decision is final and seemingly irreversible. Not only that but this is it for him at the club. He won’t attend the testing nor the training sessions before the start of the new season with the team.

Multiple sources are stating that Messi wants to leave Barcelona through the exit clause in his contract that allows him to walk for free. Even though it was stated that the said clause had expired on June 10, Messi believes it can be extended due to the season being prolonged.

The club have reportedly confirmed his message and are now having an emergency meeting. Josep Maria Bartomeu and … Read the rest

‘Life is too short’ – Man City want to turn the page with UEFA

For years to come, the 2019/20 season which has taken over a year to complete, is bound to be talked about and remembered.

From the enforced suspension of all of the leagues because of COVID-19 to having to condense the end of the season into a period of a few weeks with games every few days, it has been totally unique.

One of the major sporting issues involved a potential Champions League ban for Manchester City after UEFA had accused them of Financial Fair Play (FFP) breaches.

An appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport was ultimately successful for the Premier League club, and now chairman, Khaldoon al-Mubarak, wants to draw a line under the matter.

“Life is too short to carry grudges,” he said to Manchester City’s official website and cited by BBC Sport.

“It is one of the most prestigious competitions in the world of sports … Read the rest

Manchester City is studying ways to sign Lionel Messi

According to the reliable Moisés Llorens of ESPN, Manchester City have their calculators out to see how much it would take to sign Lionel Messi without breaking the financial fair play rules. Bringing the Argentine to the Premier League is no longer considered ‘impossible’.

Manchester City knows that the operation is very complicated, but they are studying the feasibility to be prepared in the event that he finally decides to leave Barcelona and that the Catalan club agrees to negotiate his departure for a reasonable price.

Messi ends his contract in 2021 and last week he had met Koeman to inform him that he has doubts of continuing at Barcelona after the disappointments in the Champions League against Bayern Munich, Liverpool, and Rome.

The 33-year-old demanded changes at the club, and even though Quique Setién got replaced with Ronald Koeman, it seems that bigger changes with a convincing sporting … Read the rest

Video: Kingsley Coman scores for Bayern against boyhood club PSG in the Champions League final

The deadlock has been broken in the 58th minute of the Champions League final and what a moment it is for Kingsley Coman.

Full-back Joshua Kimmich showed his world-class ability as he controlled the ball before floating a dangerous cross towards the far post.

PSG defender Thilo Kehrer looked lax as he couldn’t contest Coman, leaving the wide man to head the ball into the back of the net.

Coman came through the ranks at PSG before heading to Juventus and then Bayern Munich, the 24-year-old already has quite the trophy cabinet and is one step closer to adding the best competition in club football to that.

Take a look at the Frenchman’s opener below:

The 2019/20 season has frankly been a failure for Barcelona. For starters, the team didn’t win a single trophy, which in itself is not what Barça, as a historic club, can accept. The way the team played was far from how they should play. Many clubs have a specific way or philosophy of playing. Barcelona is built upon a specific style of play and for the club to neither follow that nor play especially appealing … Read the rest

‘This is where I want to be’ – PSG superstar puts paid to transfer rumours

As Paris Saint-Germain gear up for an appearance in their maiden Champions League final, one of their star players has put paid to rumours suggesting he wants to leave the club.

Ever since the end of his first season in the French capital, Neymar has had to contend with stories linking him with former club Barcelona.

Though it may have been true at that point, and a link-up with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez would surely have lit the blue touch paper at the Camp Nou again, it seems as though that particular ship has finally sailed.

“This is where I want to be,” he said to the Daily Star.

“The owners have a big project and part of that project is to be considered the best in Europe. We have never been closer than we are now – but we must stay focussed.”

A 19/20 season review of: Ousmane Dembélé

The 19/20 season of Ousmane Dembélé has been helpless and hampered by injuries again. Let’s review it and discuss his future.

Injuries are the worst event that can happen to a footballer’s career. Worse than red cards, bad diets and paltry runs of form. Injuries destroy players’ fitness and muscles to a certain point of no return where the players can’t sustain the highest level anymore. It happened with Yoann Gourcuff. The Frenchman was incredible at title-winning Bordeaux, but when he jumped ship to go to Lyon, injuries destroyed him to the point where he got injured while walking his dog.

At Barcelona, another injury-prone Frenchman has set foot at the pitch, … Read the rest

Chelsea are in advanced talks to sign world class centre back on a free transfer

Sometimes a club will need to find a short term solution to a ongoing problem, so bagging a world class veteran at the end of their career for a season or two can be the ideal solution.

Chelsea’s defence was a real weak point last season, but you could also argue that the general standard of defensive play has got worse in recent years.

That means we don’t see too many world class defenders going about, and it certainly means they won’t be available very often.
