Kyle Larson formally requests reinstatement

Kyle Larson‘s road back into NASCAR after his suspension has reached its final stages. On Friday, the sanctioning body confirmed he has filed for reinstatement, though a formal decision has not been made. Larson had appeared on CBS This Morning earlier in the day, marking his first NASCAR-related television interview since the suspension in April.

“I know deep down I’m not a racist,” he said. “I said a racist word and I can fully understand why people would label me ‘racist’.”

In April, Larson’s burgeoning NASCAR career came crashing down when he was suspended for using the N-word during an iRacing event, losing his ride at Chip Ganassi Racing and much of his sponsors as he was indefinitely suspended.

During his interview with James Brown of CBS, he explained why he used the slur at a white friend, who was serving as his spotter for the Monza MadnessRead the rest

Ferrari opposes Red Bull plans to freeze engine development

Scuderia Ferrari seems to want to thwart Red Bull’s plans. Max Verstappen’s team is looking at the option of developing the Honda engine itself from 2022 onwards.

On 26 October, a day after the Portimao GP, all the team bosses and the FIA will meet to discuss the problems that have arisen after Honda announced its departure from Formula 1. The departure of the Japanese is causing headaches for Red Bull Racing and AlphaTauri, as the two teams now have to find another engine supplier or come up with a solution themselves. But even more important than this: it exposes a major underlying problem in the sport.

Austrian help for Red Bull Racing with the acquisition of Honda engines?
After all, Honda’s departure shows that the sport is not profitable and sustainable enough in the long run. Developing a power source is very expensive and complex, and this is preventing many manufacturers from entering the sport. … Read the rest

Fernando Alonso makes Renault F1 Team debut

Fernando Alonso returned to the wheel of a Formula 1 car today for the first time in nearly two years.

The double World Champion drove for Renault DP World F1 Team in a filming day at the Circuit de Catalunya-Barcelona, Spain, completing 21 laps and 100km as mandated by FIA regulations. Fernando got to grips with the team’s Renault R.S.20 car, which claimed a podium in last weekend’s Eifel Grand Prix.

It was a return to home turf in many ways for the Spaniard. Twenty years previously, Fernando made his debut for Renault’s predecessors, Benetton, at the very same circuit. He also scored two hugely popular victories in the Spanish Grand Prix, in 2006 and 2013, and five further podium finishes.

Fernando will return to the F1 grid full-time from 2021.

Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc have opposing views over two-day weekend

Scuderia Ferrari drivers Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc have offered opposing views on whether Formula 1 should switch to a two-day weekend format.

The Eifel Grand Prix weekend offered a glimpse of a change F1 has been mulling over for some time, with any thoughts on the matter likely to be clarified with the upcoming race at Imola which runs over two days for logistical reasons.

After both of Friday’s practice sessions at the Nürburgring were fogged off, leaving only Saturday’s hour-long run for preparation ahead of qualifying, Charles Leclerc “enjoyed” how it played out.

“To only have one free practice and go straight to quali, I quite like it,” said Charles – “It is enough. We don’t actually need three free practices to get ready for quali so I was pretty happy.”

Given his more extensive experience, Sebastian Vettel can see the benefits of the additional Friday practice sessions … Read the rest

Liberty takes back control in Brazil

By Garry Sloan | The news broke last week amid controversy that Formula 1 will move from Interlagos in Sao Paulo to a new purpose-built track on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro. The construction of the new circuit would require the deforestation of the Camboatoa region with the felling of 200,000 trees, something the developers claim will be negated by the planting of 700,000 new trees. In Brazil, there is mounting public opposition to the proposal with a petition entitled “For the preservation of the Camboatoa Forest! Let the race track be somewhere else” already receiving over 28 million signatures. So why has Liberty Media chosen to leave behind a top 5 racetrack steeped in Formula 1 history and much loved by the fans and move to a new track in Rio?

We must wind the clock back to 2016, when Liberty entered the bidding process to purchase Formula … Read the rest

After Schumacher, who is the best Ferrari driver?

Without a doubt, both Scuderia Ferrari and
casual Formula One (F1) fans would agree that Michael Schumacher is the
greatest Ferrari driver of all time. With Schumacher, Ferrari dominated F1
becoming synonymous with race car driving. Although not as successful outside
Schumacher, Ferrari was still on top of F1 thanks to their many talented
drivers. But who deserves to carry Ferrari’s banner outside Schumacher?

The five best Ferrari drivers after Schumacher

Enzo Ferrari founded Scuderia Ferrari in 1929
and they first entered F1 in the 1950 Monaco Grand Prix. The team most recently
accomplished its 1,000th race milestone.

In 70 years, Ferrari has accumulated 16
Constructors’ Championships with 15 Drivers’ Championships, both F1 records.
They  also have over 230 victories, over
750 podiums, and over 250 fastest laps – all records as well.

A big part of this was because of Schumacher
in the early 2000’s. But even if you … Read the rest

The FIA Formula One World Championship returned to the Nürburgring for the first time since 2013 this weekend for the Eifel Grand Prix. Not only had it been seven years since the teams last touched down at the German circuit, Lewis Hamilton scored his 91st career win, matching the all time record previously set by Michael Schumacher in 2006, at the Chinese Grand Prix

The drama and excitement didn’t stop there: Renault DP World F1 Team celebrated their first podium since 2011, with Daniel Ricciardo taking to the third step of the podium and Nico Hulkenberg made yet another return to the BWT Racing Point Formula One Team, this time in place of Lance Stroll who was too unwell to compete. His call up to race was last minute on Saturday morning, with the German starting his stint in the RP20 during qualifying.
