Petty GMS Motorsports born from RPM/GMS deal

Petty GMS Motorsports is a rather redundant name as GMS stands for Gallagher Motor Sports, but it is the identity of the NASCAR Cup Series‘ newest team. On Tuesday, Richard Petty Motorsports and GMS Racing completed their marriage by announcing the team name. Erik Jones will remain in the #43 Cherolet Camaro ZL1 that comes over from the RPM side, while Ty Dillon will pilot the #42.

GMS, a Camping World Truck Series team, purchased a majority interest in RPM last Wednesday from Andrew Murstein’s Medallion Financial while Richard Petty maintains his share in the operation. Owned by Maurice Gallagher Jr., GMS announced plans to run the full Cup schedule in June, though with the #94 prior to Tuesday’s announcement. Dillon joined the team in October.

“The potential was there to bring home more points” – Ferrari’s Mattia Binotto

Scuderia Ferrari have all but sealed third place in the Constructors standings, after Charles Leclerc finished seventh and Carlos Sainz Jr eighth at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

It was a solid display by the Prancing Horses, both Leclerc and Sainz performed well to bring home yet more points for the team, with Sainz putting on an impressive attacking display having started fifteenth.

The race could’ve gone very differently for the team however, Leclerc was lucky to finish the race after tangling with Sergio Pérez during the restart after the races first red flag. The collision saw Pérez spin across half the circuit’s width, causing mayhem and further collisions behind, resulting in a second red flag of the race. Leclerc survived, Péred didn’t. Neither were at fault though, there just wasn’t enough room for the drivers at the time.

Had it not been for the red flags Ferrari may have … Read the rest

Seeking his second straight win in the race, McMillin won the pole and dominated much of the Unlimited race, leading the first three of four laps.

However, MacCachren was on the leader’s tail and finally caught him on the home stretch. With five miles remaining, MacCachren hit McMillen in the rear, causing him to roll over multiple times before landing on his roof. The two, being close friends, quickly made amends as MacCachren stopped to ensure McMillen’s safety before the latter sent him … Read the rest
