Blaise Matuidi: ‘Sarri surprised me’

Blaise Matuidi explained his reasons for leaving Juventus this summer and revealed former coach Maurizio Sarri surprised him during the Coronavirus pandemic.

The 33-year-old midfielder agreed to terminate his contract with the club by mutual consent in order to David Beckham’s Inter Miami following three successful seasons in turin.

“The time had come for a change of direction,” Matuidi told L’Equipe newspaper, “The first contact with Inter Miami was in December, but at the time, I said it was too early in my career, as the Euros were coming up, and we didn’t have all these COVID problems. The way I saw it, I’d obviously stay at Juve.

“When they called me again in June, the context had changed. Staying in quarantine made me realise I had to think about my family and spend more time with them. I looked back over my career and thought, what else are you … Read the rest

Messi’s stance is clear: either the board leaves or I’ll leave

Lionel Messi continues to put pressure on the Barcelona board. Reportedly, he has a very clear stance about the crisis at Barcelona: either the board run by president Bartomeu leaves, or Messi himself will leave. The Argentine is dissatisfied with the management, and lack of planning. Not to mention the latest 8-2 humiliation against Bayern Munich, which marked as Leo’s worst defeat in his career.

The only way Messi changes his mind about leaving the club goes through a new and convincing sporting project. Many journalists believe that the rumors regarding the Argentine leaving his home club is a way to put pressure on Bartomeu.

Even though Messi has communicated that he wants to leave immediately, a senior member within the club reminded that “Lionel Messi has a contract until June 2021, with a release clause of €700m”.

However, when it is about the best player on the planet, anything … Read the rest

Man United and Solskjaer get plans for the summer going with latest deal

Manchester United have announced academy graduate Tahith Chong has joined Werder Bremen on loan for the 2020/21 season.

Chong joined United from Feyenoord in 2016 and has been limited to just 16 appearances in all competitions since being promoted to the first team in 2018.

The winger, 20, signed an improved contract in March, keeping him with the club until the end of the 2022 season.

Negotiations between the two European clubs concluded after a decision was reached over how the player’s wages will be split.

Given the current transfer market, many teams who do not have the same financial power of a club like United will be looking at … Read the rest

Review: Tumbleweed’s radical moto-inspired, mountain touring Persuader handlebars

My partner recently picked up a pair of Tumbleweed Bicycle Company’s Persuader handlebars to potentially put on her gravel bike as part of a flat-bar conversion. After they sat in the parts bin, piquing my interest every time I walked past, I decided to throw them on my Specialized Chisel hardtail mountain bike. More recently […]

“Marc”-ed Man: Andretti the Driver to Beat on Saturday

Just like on Fast Friday, Marco Andretti with his Andretti Herta Autosport with Marco Andretti and Curb-Agajanian Honda setting the fastest four-lap average speed as Andretti Autosport cars held the top four positions in the fast nine going into Sunday.

Marco’s first run was enough to put him pole, with a four-lap average speed of 231.351 mph. Most drivers were not able to improve as the day went on as they had to combat increasing track temperatures.

Second place would be the DHL Honda of Ryan Hunter-Reay with a four-lap average of 231.330 mph. The 2012 Indianapolis 500 winner would be followed by the 2016 winner of the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing” Alexander Rossi. The final Andretti car in the top five would be James Hinchcliffe in fourth.

Scott Dixon would be the one to break the Andretti stranglehold in fifth, putting his Chip Ganassi Racing Honda in fifth with … Read the rest

When Djokovic Surprised ATP And NHL Stars In Ball Hockey Game

Editor’s Note: ATPTour.com is resurfacing features to bring fans closer to their favourite players and tournaments during the current suspension in tournament play. This story was originally published on 4 July 2016.

Novak Djokovic knows the Roger Cup Centre Court inside and out. The Serbian returned to those familiar confines in 2016, but in a different context.

“It was a unique opportunity to share an experience with [NHL players] in their environment,” said Djokovic, who traded his tennis racquet for a hockey stick in joining the annual exhibition ball hockey game alongside professional hockey players Connor McDavid, Tyler Seguin, Jason Spezza and other NHL stars. ATP Tour players competing at the event were Denis Kudla, John Millman, Andrey Kuznetsov and the young Canadian trio of Denis Shapovalov, Felix Auger Aliassime and Benjamin Sigouin. “At the same time, it was not an ice rink, so it allowed me and the other tennis … Read the rest

Versatile Willian a Swiss Army Knife signing

It was interesting to read Mikel Arteta talk about the reasons behind the signing of Willian on a free transfer. There was a financial element, of course, in that he is nominally ‘free’, in as much as we didn’t have to pay a fee for him.

“That really suits us at the moment,” said the manager, and you can understand why. He also spoke about the player’s character, calling him a ‘winner’, and making it clear that’s something he feels the squad needs. In his seven years at Chelsea, the Brazilian racked up plenty of medals and trophies, including two Premier League titles and a Europa League win in a game I have no recollection of whatsoever.

But if you’re looking for the real insight into this deal – from a footballing perspective at least – Arteta says:

We had a clear intention to strengthen in the attacking midfielder and

Trent explains why he’s “nowhere near” fulfilled after winning basically everything with Liverpool

Young right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold has said he’s “nowhere near” fulfilled after winning the Premier League title with his boyhood club.

The Scouser has been with the Reds his whole life, and has lived the dream of every fan by lifting the two most illustrious trophies available to a Liverpool player.

2019 brought the Champions League title, and the English league title followed just over 12 months later – it’s been an incredible ride for everyone involved.

But Trent isn’t yet fulfilled at Liverpool, and wants to continue fighting for more. Speaking to The Face, the full-back said he has a desire to win at any cost.

I’d say I’m chill, quite laid back,” he admits. “But when you step onto the pitch there’s something that clicks and it’s just that competitive nature that’s in every athlete really.

That desire to win at any Read the rest

Video: Man City punished on the break as Maxwel Cornet fires Lyon into the lead

In the 23rd minute of Manchester City’s Champions League quarter-final tie against Lyon, the Citizens found themselves in danger after a lovely ball was played over the top of their high line.

Karl Toko Ekambi ran onto the pass and before being tackled by Eric Garcia, but the ball spilled out and into the path of Maxwel Cornet.

The forward punished sweeper-keeper Ederson for being out of his goal as he tucked the ball into the back of the net with a tidy first-time finish from just outside the box.

Differing reports on Dybala future

There are different reports on Paulo Dybala’s future at Juventus as Gazzetta dello Sport report that the club would only entertain offers over €90 million for the player while Fabrizio Romano suggests his future in Turin is secure.

La Joya was widely expected to renew his contract with the Bianconeri this summer, extended his deal to 2024 or possibly 2025, with just a final agreement missing.

Tuttosport now report that the renewal talks are on hold for the moment, at least until after the summer, as La Joya has asked for at least €15 million a season, while Juve are only prepared to offer €8 million plus bonuses.

Alongside, Gazzetta dello Sport report that the Covid crisis negatively affected Juventus’ balance sheet (an estimate: €70 million as of 30/6/2020) and could force the Bianconeri to think about a heavy sale to finance the new course they’re taking.

Gazzetta report that … Read the rest
