Liverpool-linked midfielder valued at £22.5m ‘reminiscent of De Bruyne’; set to face Man City in UCL clash

Liverpool-linked forward, Charles De Ketelaere, has been compared to Manchester City’s talismanic playmaker Kevin De Bruyne.

The pair combined during Belgium’s 2-1 defeat to Italy in the Nations League final during the international break, with the latter setting up his compatriot for a neat finish.

“Charles’ best position is number 10, but experienced star Hans Vanaken plays there, so he had been moved around, used in attack, on the wing and even at left-back,” Frans Buyse, a Belgian football journalist, told BBC Sport.

“Lately, he started to enjoy life in the penalty area, but his biggest strength is to have a lot of the ball in central midfield.

“De Ketelaere’s style is reminiscent of De Bruyne. He is intelligent, and possesses great vision and a superb passing range. His dribbling is similar to De Bruyne’s too. Eventually, he should take his place for Belgium.”

Gary Neville’s ‘shoddy’ Man Utd verdict ahead of Liverpool clash will have Reds fans giddy

Gary Neville has slated his former side’s ‘shoddy’ performances this season, expressing his concern for Manchester United ahead of their upcoming fixtures.

The Red Devils are set to face Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool outfit this coming weekend after a round of European ties.

“Having struggled against half decent teams, they’re now going to play against some of the best teams in the world,” the 46-year-old told Sky Sports (via the Echo).

“Next Sunday, they’re going to play Liverpool and then they have to play Man City the week after.

“They’re then going to play Tottenham and Chelsea and these are proper teams. Of course, the players could rise for those games, but that’s not a good start today [Leicester].

“The performances have been so shoddy all season in terms of team performances. There’s been some good results and some great individual goals, but the overall performances and the unit in and Read the rest

(Video) Watch Kelleher’s stunning near post save to preserve Liverpool’s clean sheet

Caoimhin Kelleher may as well have joined Alisson Becker and Fabinho in Spain for the most part of Liverpool’s 5-0 encounter with Watford, given the Reds’ sheer level of dominance.

That having been said, the Irish shotstopper did have some work to do late in the tie, pulling out a fingertip save to push Ismailla Sarr’s effort onto the bar and out of danger.

A contract until 2025 would keep the former Chelsea frontman in Merseyside until he turns 33.

‘Liverpool do like him’ – £28m winger’s agent confirms Reds’ interest

Raphinha’s agent Deco has confirmed Liverpool’s interest in the Leeds United star.

The Reds were reportedly keen on the Brazilian attacker in the summer window, with the Anfield-based outfit said to be considering the possibility of bolstering the forward line following the drop-off in form from Sadio Mane and Bobby Firmino.

“Raphinha has become an important player in the Premier League, the club knows he has grown and things will happen naturally,” the former Chelsea star told ge.

“He’s young, he has many challenges ahead, there are certainly several clubs that like him, and Liverpool do like him, there were surveys, but nothing official.

“Leeds wanted to keep him for another season.”

Despite the pair having started the season positively, amidst the return of a full-strength first-XI, however, speculation remains rife, with the forwards’ contracts set to expire in the summer of 2023.

‘Prodigal son’ – These Liverpool fans would take Philippe Coutinho back at Anfield ‘in a heartbeat’ after link emerges

Philippe Coutinho remains something of a divisive figure still in Merseyside following his ill-advised departure from Liverpool in 2018.

The money the Reds then received at the time (£142m) ultimately funded the club’s acquisition of two key men – Alisson Becker and Virgil van Dijk – who were both adjudged to have helped turn around the side’s fortunes.

There’s still an overriding sense that the Brazilian made the wrong decision to swap Anfield for the Camp Nou (a feeling backed up by reality), however, in large part, fans have moved on.

Manchester United could be without key man for Liverpool clash after suffering ‘groin muscle injury’ on international duty

Raphael Varane has been ruled out of Manchester United’s upcoming meeting with Leicester City after sustaining a ‘groin muscle injury’ during France’s Nations League final victory.

This comes from the Daily Star, with the Frenchman having had to be taken off the field of play prior to the half-time whistle, with Didier Deschamps men eventually going on to beat Spain 2-1.

According to a club statement released by the Red Devils, the former Real Madrid centre-half will be out for ‘a few weeks’, which could mean that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s outfit are without the defender for their clash with Liverpool in the latter half of the month.

(Video) Virgil van Dijk fires Netherlands into the lead with pinpoint header

Virgil van Dijk opened the scoring for Louis van Gaal’s Netherlands outfit with a bullet header.

The towering Liverpool centre-half burst toward the near post to meet Memphis Depay’s corner kick, placing the ball out of Gibraltar No.1 Bradley James Banda’s reach.

The Flying Dutchman find themselves 2-0 up, at the time of writing, with the Barcelona attacker having since doubled the scorline in the first-half of the national outfit’s World Cup qualifier.

It’s great to see Van Dijk get back on the scoresheet, albeit against relatively weak opposition, and we’ll be hoping to see 30-year-old bring his aerial threat into future domestic ties, perhaps as early as our upcoming meeting with Watford this Saturday.

Finance expert warns Liverpool’s future transfer windows could suffer as a result of Annie Road End development

Kieran Maguire has suggested that Liverpool’s transfer funds could take a hit as a result of increased costs associated with the expansion of the Anfield Road End stand.

The Reds were expected to engage in a busier summer window, though only added centre-half Ibrahima Konate to the squad despite Gini Wijnaldum’s departure.

“I think the club will also be expected to self-fund this expansion. That’s no mean feat as it’s a massive project,” the finance expert told Football Insider.

“It’s therefore a case of having to rob Peter to pay Paul in terms of the club’s ability to compete in the transfer market.

“Because the Anfield Road end is behind one of the goals, those are not premium seats. The premium seats are around the halfway line.”

The COVID-19 pandemic had a damaging impact on the finances of clubs across Europe, particularly those outside of the English top-flight without access … Read the rest
