The signing of Darwin Nunez by Liverpool has many a fan questioning who will turn out to be the more prolific addition to the Premier League out of the Uruguayan and Manchester City’s Erling Haaland.

After popping the question himself on Twitter, Jose Enrique reminded one supporter that the Norwegian international was also joining from a different league ahead of the next campaign.

Former Liverpool player Michael Thomas has explained why he believed Darwin Nunez will be ‘a great signing’ for the Reds.

The 22-year-old Uruguay international is reportedly set to arrive on Merseyside next week in order to complete his transfer from Portuguese outfit Benfica.

He’s expected to sign a six-year-deal at the club and although he may prove to spearhead the Anfield outfit’s attack for the foreseeable future, Thomas still believes Bobby Firmino will have a ‘role’ to play at the club next season.

As reported by Dominic King from the Daily Mail: ‘Liverpool want to sign Darwin Nunez and are prepared to smash their transfer record to get him. Nunez keen on Liverpool, Man United and Atletico Madrid also interested in him’.

Alex Crook has confirmed that Liverpool are genuine contenders for the signing of highly-rated Benfica forward, Darwin Nunez.

The Uruguayan international has been heavily linked with the Reds and Manchester United, though it would appear that, as things stand, the former is very much in the race for his signature.

“Darwin Nunez, there is genuine interest from Manchester United, but a deal for him is not as close as has been suggested in the Portuguese media,” the journalist told talkSPORT. “I received a text message from a trustworthy source on Friday that Liverpool are genuinely contenders for him.”

Thiago Alcantara and Diogo Jota have played 94 games for Liverpool between them in this campaign but their seasons still haven’t ended.
