Liverpool-linked midfielder valued at £22.5m ‘reminiscent of De Bruyne’; set to face Man City in UCL clash

Liverpool-linked forward, Charles De Ketelaere, has been compared to Manchester City’s talismanic playmaker Kevin De Bruyne.

The pair combined during Belgium’s 2-1 defeat to Italy in the Nations League final during the international break, with the latter setting up his compatriot for a neat finish.

“Charles’ best position is number 10, but experienced star Hans Vanaken plays there, so he had been moved around, used in attack, on the wing and even at left-back,” Frans Buyse, a Belgian football journalist, told BBC Sport.

“Lately, he started to enjoy life in the penalty area, but his biggest strength is to have a lot of the ball in central midfield.

“De Ketelaere’s style is reminiscent of De Bruyne. He is intelligent, and possesses great vision and a superb passing range. His dribbling is similar to De Bruyne’s too. Eventually, he should take his place for Belgium.”

Newcastle will surely have big ambitions, and the Daily Mirror now claim they could try to kick-start this new era by appointing Howe to replace Bruce imminently.

The ex-Cherries boss could be in line to take over for Newcastle’s upcoming clash with Crystal Palace, according to the report.

Barcelona eye summer swoop for Manchester United’s veteran midfielder

If one thing has been clear from Barcelona’s moves in the transfer market over the past few weeks, it is the sudden sense of urgency over reinforcements in midfield.

In the last window, Barcelona let go of two players from the department in Miralem Pjanic and Ilaix Moriba. The Catalans were close to regaining one number in midfield through the signing of Giorginio Wijnaldum. However, the deal collapsed at the last minute and the manager was left short-staffed in midfield.

Gary Neville’s ‘shoddy’ Man Utd verdict ahead of Liverpool clash will have Reds fans giddy

Gary Neville has slated his former side’s ‘shoddy’ performances this season, expressing his concern for Manchester United ahead of their upcoming fixtures.

The Red Devils are set to face Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool outfit this coming weekend after a round of European ties.

“Having struggled against half decent teams, they’re now going to play against some of the best teams in the world,” the 46-year-old told Sky Sports (via the Echo).

“Next Sunday, they’re going to play Liverpool and then they have to play Man City the week after.

“They’re then going to play Tottenham and Chelsea and these are proper teams. Of course, the players could rise for those games, but that’s not a good start today [Leicester].

“The performances have been so shoddy all season in terms of team performances. There’s been some good results and some great individual goals, but the overall performances and the unit in and Read the rest

Liverpool star makes Premier League history following superb performance vs Watford

Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino hit a hat-trick in the Reds’ 5-0 Premier League win over Watford, and made a small piece of history in the process.

The Brazil international has become the first Brazilian player to score more than one hat-trick in the Premier League, having also previously netted a treble against Arsenal in the past.

This stat comes via BBC Sport, with Garth Crooks including Firmino in his latest Premier League team of the week, alongside his Liverpool team-mates Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk.

Firmino didn’t have the best of times for Liverpool last season, with the goals really drying up for the 30-year-old, but it now looks like he’s back to something closer to his best form.

Koeman hints at possible Barcelona attack in the future: “They are an excellent pair”

Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman spoke to the media after his side’s impressive 3-1 victory over Valencia. Though the hosts went down early to Jose Gaya’s goal, his side responded well and came back to win the game convincingly.

It was a fairytale start to a difficult week ahead, and Koeman had nothing but praise for his players. Here are the snippets from the Dutchman’s post-match interview-

When asked about the combination between Ansu Fati and Memphis Depay, Koeman said the duo are complementary to each other.

“Ansu and Memphis are complementary to each other. They can both play as a striker or coming inside from the left. They can switch positions all throughout the match.”

On Phillipe Coutinho, who scored Barcelona’s third goal today, the Dutch manager said he always trusted the Brazilian.

“With Coutinho’s introduction and giving him freedom, we controlled the game better. He’s a player who knows Read the rest

Caoimhin Kelleher may as well have joined Alisson Becker and Fabinho in Spain for the most part of Liverpool’s 5-0 encounter with Watford, given the Reds’ sheer level of dominance.

That having been said, the Irish shotstopper did have some work to do late in the tie, pulling out a fingertip save to push Ismailla Sarr’s effort onto the bar and out of danger.

Barcelona, Juventus, Liverpool eye 24-year-old Portuguese midfielder for the summer

While the 2021 summer transfer window is closed, Barcelona are already setting their sights on the one to come. The likes of Paul Pogba, Erling Haaland and Dani Olmo have been on the club’s radar for some time. As of now, another name has resurfaced, one that almost made his way to the Catalan capital this past summer.

As per a report relayed by Fichajes, Barça are once again on the lookout for Lille midfielder Renato Sanches. The Portuguese has been scouted by the Catalans for quite some time, and they look to strengthen the midfield in the coming year.

Ronald Koeman took a liking towards his playing style and the different skill he possesses compared to the rest of the side. His dribbling ability and eye for goal are all praised by the Dutchman. As is the case with every single transfer, no club ever acts alone.
