Chelsea and Man City ready to triple salary of €25 million-rated Barcelona gem
According to Spanish newspaper SPORT, several European giants are monitoring the contractual situation of Barcelona midfielder, Ilaix Moriba.
The 18 year old has stalled negotiations with Barca, and president Joan Laporta has offered him two choices: either he will extend his contract with the Catalans beyond this year or face the entirety of next season playing with the Juvenil A.
With such a calamitous situation, the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City have shown interest in him. The Premier and European champions both have alluring offers, and they might go all the way up to tripling his salary to incentivise him to change clubs.
Moriba currently earns €2 million, which in itself is reportedly much more than what most of his teammates in the Juvenil earn. The reported salary increments would take his salary all the way up to €6 million should an agreement be made. For comparison, Liverpool’s Sadio Mane earns €5.2 million per annum. The 18-year-old would reportedly be earning more but in the youth leagues.
Owing to Barcelona’s financial situation, the Catalan giants are willing to sell him to the highest bidder. Even though his release clause is €100 million, the Spaniard’s market value is around €25 million.
Should he refuse to extend his contract beyond the one year remaining, his market value will decrease, and in 2022 he could be signed as a free agent.
Barcelona are not willing to make any compromises. He will either renew and keep his current wages with the possibility of playing in the first team, or refuse and miss out on playing even for the B.
