Former Manchester City defender on Barcelona radar for the summer – report
Ahead of the June transfer window, Barcelona have several holes in their team they need to plug, starting with the defence.
Sergi Roberto and Dani Alves’ are out of contract this summer, which leaves Sergino Dest as the only viable right-back in the squad. Recent reports suggest that both players could end up renewing, with Barcelona offering a one-year contract to Roberto.
The problems at left-back, as such, are exponentially larger. Jordi Alba was without a deputy yet another season this time around. At 33, though, he is not only in need of a backup, but probably a long-term replacement.
Barcelona have set their sights on several players, and one such option includes RB Leipzig’s Angelino, according to Mundo Deportivo.
A graduate of Manchester City’s academy, Angelino spent a lot of time on loan before eventually signing for PSV Eindhoven in 2018. City bought him back in 2019, but he did not get the chance to play regularly, and eventually signed for Leipzig.
He’s been one of the best left-backs in the world since his move to Bundesliga, creating close to two chances every game.
At 25, he is yet to enter his prime. Further, he has a contract with Leipzig until 2025, which ensures that he is bound to be expensive.
Barcelona have also shortlisted the likes of Alejandro Grimaldo, Jose Gaya, Javi Galan, and Sergi Reguilon for their operation, but at the moment, Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso seems to be leading the race.
With a month left before the transfer window officially opens, Barcelona have enough time on their hands to cut the shortlist down a couple.
