Frenchman refuses to leave Barcelona in January, will go to the Premier League in June

The clash between Barcelona and Ousmane Dembele has been fiery, to say the least. The two parties that used to be on good terms now seem to be widening their gaps beyond repair.

After being declined their unrealistic ask of €40 million per annum payslip, Dembele’s entourage were said to be willing to negotiate once again with Barcelona. Yet, less than 24 hours after that news broke out, there is another twist in the tale.

According to reports from Santiovalle via Carrusel Deportivo, the Frenchman is refusing to leave in the January transfer window. The player threatens to leave for free in the summer if his conditions are not met. With several clubs in the Premier League interested in his signing, his dream destination seems to be England.

The scenario is quite polar at the club’s end. Barcelona have only two options as they see it. If the player does not renew his contract, a departure in January is seen as the only viable option.

In the final six months of his contract at Catalonia, Dembele has a lot of leverage on the club’s administration. Moreover, his tag as one of the most expensive signings in the sport’s history makes his move on a free even more painful. It is not surprising that Barcelona sees a January exit as the only feasible choice.

Dembele has only started four La Liga games this season, providing two assists. However, his recent game against Granada was a reminder of why he must keep his feet grounded.

Yesterday, the player’s agent Moussa Sissoko came out to claim that the mismanagement by Xavi was a reason for Dembele’s delayed contract talks, saying, “Everyone talks about money. But it’s not only money for us. Also the management with the player day-to-day is very important. How can he play right after getting covid without even training?”

Both parties are clutching on to straws right now. While Xavi needs someone like Dembele in the team, it seems the Frenchman’s attitude could see him go to the stands for the rest of the season soon enough.
