Auto Club Speedway redevelopment into short track planned by NASCAR

Assuming things go to plan, Auto Club Speedway will look very different in 2023. On Tuesday, The Athletic reported NASCAR has submitted plans to San Bernardino County to transform the two-mile oval into a half-mile short track.

Auto Club Speedway, located in Fontana, California and developed with the support of Roger Penske, opened in 1997 and is one of the Cup Series‘ fastest ovals similar to Michigan International Speedway. The two-mile, D-shaped course currently hosts the Cup Series’ Auto Club 400, and welcomed the IndyCar Series from 2002 to 2005 and 2012 to 2015. The speedway also features an infield road course that has been used for motorcycle and sports car racing, including the Rolex Sports Car Series in the early 2000s.

However, the track has encountered various speed bumps in its history. A second Cup date on Labor Day weekend failed due to poor … Read the rest

Ferrari Vice Chairman explains “unique livery” for Mugello | 2020 Tuscan GP

Our most eagerly awaited moment of the year has arrived as Scuderia Ferrari prepares to tackle the 1000th Grand Prix in its history. Not only that, but this milestone takes place at the Mugello Circuit, the facility owned by the Maranello marque, which gets to host a round of the blue riband category of motor racing for the very first time.

Historic. The Maranello marque has planned several initiatives, starting with a celebratory livery. Over the weekend, the SF1000s will feature a Burgundy colour, which is a faithful reproduction of the shade of red of the very first Prancing Horse Formula 1 car, the 125 F1, which took to the track in the Monaco Grand Prix on 21 May 1950. For the past 71 years Ferrari has been ever present in every year of the championship. Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel will also have special race suits for this unique … Read the rest

Maitland-Niles, Aouar, Guendouzi, and quite large central defenders

Considering the new Premier League season begins on Saturday, it’s all very quiet. The build-up has been pretty low key. Perhaps it might be considered a surprise, but given everything else that has gone on in this cursed year of 2020, it’s fairly low down the list of things which might make our collective eyebrows raise.

I know the Interlull has played a part in that. Usually players aren’t away with their countries in the week before the opening game, but usually there isn’t a global pandemic which has had a massive impact on football fixtures so they’re trying to squeeze in as much as possible in a very short time. Thankfully, the glorious Nations Cup has not had to suffer so we can all get excited about who wins the Nations Cup, if there even is a Nations Cup to play for. Has anyone seen it? Don’t @ me.… Read the rest

Medvedev: 'One Point Decided Two Sets'

Daniil Medvedev withstood an early test from Andrey Rublev before booking his place in his second straight US Open semi-final with a 7-6(6), 6-3, 7-6(5) victory on Wednesday.

“It was tough at the end,” said Medvedev. “Maybe the first time in almost a year I celebrated my win because it was very tough at the end. I felt like I could get in trouble, so I was really happy to get the win in the tie-break. One point decided two sets, so it was a really tough match.”

The third seed, competing in just his second Grand Slam quarter-final, was dominant on serve, winning 89 per cent of first-serve points (51/57) and saving the only break point he faced. But the crucial point of the match came when he faced a third consecutive set point at 6/5 in the first set. The Russian No. 1 made the conscious decision to … Read the rest

Ornstein reveals United’s centre-back plans – fans will be outraged

Manchester United fans will be disappointed to hear their club’s plans for defensive reinforcement in what has been a quiet summer so far.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has brought in just Donny van de Beek from Ajax in a transfer window many expected and hoped would be incredibly busy.

The legendary Norwegian did well in his first full season in charge, finishing in third place and securing Champions League football.

Many felt it meant Solskjaer would be fully backed in the transfer market and while that may eventually be true, it has been frustratingly slow until now.

There are many United fans who feel, amongst other targets, that a new centre-back is needed to take the club to another level but unfortunately that feeling isn’t quite shared by the club.

Liverpool could bide their time and swoop for Thiago in January, according to Sky Sports honcho

Liverpool have been tipped to wait until January to make a move for Bayern Munich star Thiago Alcantara, with the midfielder able to sign off on a Bosman transfer for next summer.

This suggestion comes from Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol who claims it makes more sense for the Reds to wait than spend millions right now.

Rumour has it Liverpool and Thiago have already agreed on personal terms and it’s now up to the Premier League and European champions to thrash out a fee.

That’s according to very reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano, who has repeatedly stated it’s now up to Bayern and the Reds to close the deal.

Boost for Chelsea as Italian giants more likely to make a move for outcast after latest developments

Even if they can’t manage to attract giant fees for their fringe players, it’s important for Chelsea to get rid of some players after a big summer of spending.

Davide Zappacosta is a player who doesn’t have much of a future at Stamford Bridge, but there wasn’t a lot of interest until recently.

Gianluca Di Marzio indicated that Atalanta had approached Chelsea about taking him back to Italy on loan, but he was only a back up option in case a deal for Roma defender Rick Karsdorp fell through.

The issue with that deal was due to a disagreement over commission payments, but the move to Atalanta now looks even more unlikely after VI reported that Genoa were closing in on a deal for the Roma defender.

Tuttosport: Agreement reached for Higuain farewell

Tuttosport report that an agreement has been reached for the termination of Gonzalo Higuain’s Juventus contract and a farewell is imminent.

The 33-year-old has been on the verge of leaving with his agent-brother having arrived in Turin just days ago to finalise the termination of his deal with the Bianconeri.

According to Tuttosport, a deal has now been agreed with Pipita set to earn just under 50{3851c0879557ceb6c70cddb6630c7df9a9750acfd53fffec21979e603af26faa} of what he was due for the final year of his contract with the Old Lady.

Higuain is expected to leave the club in the coming days and has already reportedly said his farewells to teammates and Juve management with a move to MLS side Inter Miami looking most likely.

The striker is no longer considered part of Juve’s plans with new coach Andrea Pirlo confirming he would be leaving the club:

“He was a great champion, a great player but the

Memphis Depay has agreed personal terms with Barcelona

According to Fabrizio Romano, Memphis Depay has agreed personal terms with Barcelona so a deal could be on the cards.

The Catalans have been on a hunt for a new ‘number 9‘ to replace Luis Suárez for a while and the Dutchman seems the chosen one. Of course, the Uruguayan is yet to officially depart but that should happen sooner rather than later.

Even though Olympique Lyon would rather keep their star forward in France, Ronald Koeman’s connection could be vital in securing the move. The two have worked together in the national team and the new Azulgrana coach knows the player well.

And now according to reliable sources, Depay has agreed personal terms with Barcelona. However, the final agreement between the two clubs is still missing.

There were whispers of Samuel Umtiti potentially being included in the deal but that has gone quiet ever since. The Frenchman’s … Read the rest
