Video: ‘We are close’ – Arteta admits that Arsenal are almost over the line with Aubameyang

Arsenal supporters don’t need reminding just how good Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is, but he proved his importance again in the Community Shield and showed how vital he is to the Gunners’ continued success.

A first-half goal put the north Londoners into the lead against Liverpool, and though Arsenal were pegged back late on, it was left to the Gabonese to fire home the match-winning penalty and hand Mikel Arteta his second trophy as manager.

In his post-match interview, the Spaniard admitted that a deal to extend Aubameyang’s contract was close, which will surely be music to the ears of the Gunners’ faithful.

Racing Point: the FIA verdict that could change F1’s future

This is probably the most unusual season of the sport, even considering those unorthodox events that Jastina had mentioned at the end of her article. As I’m writing these lines, Racing Points has just had a 15 championship points deduction and 400,000 Euro fine for allegedly copying Mercedes 2019 rear break ducts. The plans for the parts in question had been supplied legally by Mercedes last year, back when it was ok to distribute parts and plans for parts to other teams up and down the paddock. Mercedes supply engines to Racing Point as they do at Williams too so it was perfectly acceptable to help out your customers with some parts of a Formula 1 car.

The situation

The regulations changed for 2020, saying that all teams must be constructors of their own car, this is where Racing Point have got themselves in trouble, however they are appealing … Read the rest

O’Ward takes spoils in practice at WWT Raceway

As the NTT Indycar Series comes down from the high of the Indianapolis 500 a week ago, they now face a tricky double-header at World Wide Technology Raceway for the Bommarito Automotive Group 500.

The weekend began with the only practice session the teams will get, with 90 minutes for the teams to get their setups spot on for Saturday’s race, the first of two which will both be during the day for the first time at this oval.

Pato O’Ward has been very impressive so far in 2020 and he was the man to beat in practice, topping the session for his Arrow McLaren SP team with the only lap above the 181 mph barrier.

The Mexican came close to his first Indycar win early in the year at Road America until Felix Rosenqvist snatched it away so he will be keen to convert this speed into a … Read the rest

Ferrari’s Racing Point protest due to upgrade tokens rule

Scuderia Ferrari is now the only team appealing the decision regarding Racing Point’s brake ducts, and it’s supposedly due to the upgrade tokens.

After the FIA found Racing Point guilty of copying Mercedes’s 2019 brake ducts, they fined the team £360,000 and docked them 15 points.

With Racing Point appealing the decision, and Ferrari and Renault doing the same, believing it was too lenient, a hearing at the International Court of Appeal is set to go ahead in around two weeks.

However, many feel that the matter will be settled behind the scenes in order to avoid going to court.

“Off-track obviously that appeal process has gone in, I don’t think there’s any chance in hell that it will end up in an appeal court,” Christian Horner told Channel 4.

Recently Renault stated that they were satisfied by the measures taken by the sport in “safeguarding the originality in the … Read the rest

Reading between the lines of Arteta’s press conference

Happy Friday to you.

Mikel Arteta met the press (over Zoom) yesterday, and just over three weeks after we won the FA Cup, we’re back up and running again. As you can imagine there was a lot to get through, with the manager being asked about fitness, Covid-19, fans being allowed back in the stadium, transfers, contracts, the futures of individual players, Black Lives Matter, and more.

The easiest way to do this is by highlighting the most important/interesting bits, so let’s do that, starting with:

Gabriel Magalhaes

When a player is in London on Monday for a medical, there are expectations that he’ll be announced not long after. The thing about transfers is that there are all kinds of little things involved which can prevent the deal being fully completed. There are two clubs involved, the player, his representatives, so there are lots of Is to dot and TsRead the rest

Raonic Makes Masters 1000 Final Return

Milos Raonic advanced to his first ATP Masters 1000 final in four and a half years on Friday with a 7-6(5), 6-3 victory against Stefanos Tsitsipas.

The unseeded Canadian won 90 per cent of first-serve points (35/39) to reach his fourth Masters 1000 championship match (0-3) after one hour and 37 minutes. Raonic is through to his first final at the level since his runner-up finish to Novak Djokovic at the 2016 BNP Paribas Open final in Indian Wells.

“It would be incredible [to win an ATP Masters 1000 title]. Just generally as part of my career, it’s not just the past six months coming back [and] playing. Just with everything else, I want to go to heights I haven’t achieved yet and this is a part of it,” said Raonic. “This is what I’ve worked hard for with very clear, specific goals and I hope that I can get … Read the rest
