Report: Barcelona will not call up Umtiti ‘for a single game’ if he stays

According to reports from SPORT, Barcelona has taken a firm decision regarding the future of Samuel Umtiti.

The Spanish media outlet claim that the Frenchman will not be called up with Barcelona again. In case the defender fails to leave the club, the Catalans will leave him out of the squad list in all the games this season.

They further add that Umtiti knows that he will see very few minutes this season. At the moment, Barcelona has offers on the table for the centre-back and are looking to offload the high-wage earner.

Umtiti has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons in the past week.

A major part of the fanbase considers him, along with few others on lucrative contracts, to be responsible for Lionel Messi’s departure. The general notion that the defender earns ridiculous wages for little to no participation is well established.

This was evident in the Joan Gamper match against Juventus. During the game, the 27-year-old was repeatedly whistled at whenever he got on the ball, a clear sign of dislike from the fans.

Moreover, at the end of the game, Umtiti did not join the team in the celebrations. The defender went straight into the dressing room after the action and was not happy. He later took to social media to express his disappointment.

Nevertheless, the player knows that his time at Barcelona is coming to an end. With the club taking a firm stance on his involvement in the coming season, Samuel Umtiti could well be on his way out in the coming weeks.
