Report: Joan Laporta will decide on Ronald Koeman’s renewal in October

As per a report relayed by ARA, Futbol Club Barcelona president Joan Laporta has some big plans regarding the future of current manager Ronald Koeman. According to the newspaper, the Dutchman will have until October to prove his level to the president.

The report states that he will wait until October to see whether or not it will be worth offering Koeman a renewal. The results of the start of the season will be pivotal in deciding the future of the Barça coach.

Last season, Barcelona’s first eight games took them out of the title race before it even began. The Catalans won just three games, amassing just 10 points from a possible 24. Knowing the consequences this happening for a second time could have on the season, he has warned the manager over any complacency ahead of the preseason, as the team gradually returns to training.

Barcelona will have 12 matches between the start of the season until the end of October. Within that time, the Blaugrana will face a number of big sides both home and away. The report indicates that the new proposal will be for a maximum of two seasons, and will include clauses that will allow both parties to end the agreement with relative ease.

These big games will include: a home game against Real Sociedad, an away match against Athletic Club, a trip to Sevilla, an away game against Atlético Madrid and two home matches against Valencia and Real Madrid respectively.

If Ronald Koeman fails to win a majority of these matches, then by the end of the season, he will face the sack.
