Ronald Koeman speaks following 4-2 win over Real Sociedad
Barcelona kicked off their post-Messi era with a commanding 4-2 victory over Real Sociedad. The Catalans were solid in the first half and found the back of the net twice.
Apart from a few minutes of madness towards the end of the game when they conceded twice, the hosts were in complete control. Martin Braithwaite stole the limelight with two goals and an assist.
Ronald Koeman spoke following the convincing display and covered a range of topics.
The manager was first asked about his thoughts on the game to which he said, “It’s always important to start the season with a win. We’ve displayed a good picture. I’m very happy with the level we’ve shown.”
He then went on to add his views on the performance as a whole. The Dutchman said, “We played well. We dominated the game. I am very happy with the reaction of the team when they scored.”
Koeman was then asked for his thoughts on the season ahead and the tough schedule yet to come. “It will be a tough season ahead, and we’re aware of what we must offer. We are on the right track, and we need to continue,” was his reply.
The manager then spoke about the individual performances with a special mention for debutants Eric Garcia and Memphis Depay: “Everyone played a good game. Eric has been great. Memphis was great and provided some nice moves in addition to the assist.”
The Barcelona coach then spoke about the first half, where Barcelona pushed the visitors to the limit. Koeman said, “We were fantastic in the first half, both with and without the ball.”
Needless to say, the former Netherlands coach then spoke about the return of fans to the stadium and the atmosphere. His words were, “It’s pure enjoyment to see the fans back. We need this. We need to be strong at home, and the fans will help us with that. It was a fantastic game in every aspect.”
