Santino Ferrucci has upped his NTT IndyCar Series schedule to include the upcoming Chevrolet Dual in Detroit on 12/13 June, where he will continue driving the #45 Honda for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing. Hy-Vee will provide sponsorship alongside Frito-Lay‘s Cheetos brand.
“I’m excited to compete in the two races in Detroit after a fantastic run at the Indy 500,” Ferrucci stated. “To carry the momentum into Detroit is massive for the team. Hy-Vee is partnering with Frito-Lay so we will have Chester Cheetah and the Cheetos brand on the car, which I think is pretty awesome. It’s a fantastic track, and I’m excited to be returning to Detroit since we didn’t get a chance to race there in 2020.”
After racing full-time in IndyCar in 2019 and 2020, Ferrucci made the switch to the NASCAR Xfinity Series for a part-time schedule with Sam Hunt Racing; his best finish in four races to date is thirteenth at Las Vegas in March. Nevertheless, he kept his foot in the IndyCar door and joined RLL for May’s Indianapolis 500, where he finished sixth. In three Indy 500 starts, he has never finished worse than seventh (2019); his best run is fourth in 2020, which he had equalled on three prior occasions the previous year for his career bests.
Ferrucci made his IndyCar début at Detroit in 2018 for Dale Coyne Racing, finishing twenty-second and twentieth in the two races. His 2019 runs at the street course concluded with nineteen- and tenth-place runs.
